Oh dear, shall I shed a tear?

It looks as if Michael Bay won’t be back for round 5 of giant robots battle each other nonsensically and incoherently, aka Transformers 5:

Director Michael Bay has indicated that he will not be directing the fifth film in the Transformers franchise, despite having directed the previous four. An interview with USA Today claims that Bay will “pass the baton for future Transformer (sic) movies while he turns his focus elsewhere”

I’ve seen the first 3 movies, and they’re crap. Characters with the poorest characterization. Plot holes so big you could fly Omega Supreme through.  Action scenes so chaotic that you cannot even discern who is who.  And of course explosions, explosions, explosions-a Michael Bay trademark.  I like slam bang action fests as much as anyone else, but I want the movie to have a plot that makes sense. I want characters to have motivations and for those motivations to be followed through in the movie.  I want the characters to move the plot forward. I want action seems to be comprehensible, and not a giant mishmash (seriously, I can’t make out who is who in most of the Autobot/Decepticon battles in any of the movies).

Bay said: “There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.”

I wonder if he’ll one day try to become a better director.  That would be an interesting muscle for him to hone.
