I’ve been thinking about thinking lately. Actually, I think about thinking quite a bit. Most people argue poorly, and all of us have argued poorly at some time or another. Thinking critically and reasoning can be very difficult, but it’s sort of fun, too. Once you start to recognize shoddy arguments, it’s very cool to know how to argue against them. And it’s enlightening to realize that you can move past making poor arguments, and that you can call the people you’re debating on their poor arguments. This lets us move past emotional statements and false conclusions to the heart of the matter under debate.
I am always trying to improve my knowledge, my ability to recognize, and my understanding of fallacious arguments. I found this video series via Brian Gregory’s The Things I Missed A Growing List. These videos give short, engaging introductions to the subject of critical thinking. Here’s number one. For the rest of the series, check out techNyou’s youtube page.
