Hi! I'm a tech guy, skeptic, feminist, gamer and atheist, and love OSS and science of all stripes. I enjoy a good bit of whargarbl now and again, and will occasionally even seek it out. I am also apparently responsible for the death of common sense on the internet. My bad.
I have opinions. So do you. You want to share them with me. I would like to do likewise. Please don't expect a platform for proselytizing that will go unchecked and unchallenged, though. Contact me via the clicky thingies under my banner.
The commenting rules are simple: don't piss me off. This rule has worked for me for a decade; I have never found a need for any other rule, because any other rules leads to rules-lawyering. Just remember --
this is my property, not yours.
Yes, exactly. It is totally a winning strategy! (Just not for them.)
I’d be at pride but I’ve got a horrific disease. Well, its a bad cold but a really bad one.
S’allright. They know perfectly well that anti-Hispanic bigotry is a loosing strategy but they just can’t stop themselves long enough to win an election.
In the words that is rapidly becoming a political theme this days:
Please proceed, Republicans.
I would have killed to (finally!) see the parade, but I was at Pride was too goddamed long yesterday and my legs rebelled.
Stupid legs.
Yup, the “smart” GOP pols realized a couple years ago that it was time to just STFU about marriage equality. Actually supporting it is arguably too risky for a Republican candidate — it wins you a bunch of independent young voters in the general election, but it’s an extreme liability in the primary. But just not saying anything about it either way? And equivocating if asked directly? That’s the best they can do right now. And the fact that so many of the Tea Partiers fail to see that is just further proof that they really believe their own bigotry.
I wouldn’t worry, they’re not going to listen anyway.
I love how Reed looked all smug and authoritative until Rachel smacked him down with reality. 🙂
Seems to me their problem is that they’re being pulled two ways. The traditionalist, white evangelicals don’t want gays or latinos, but they’re not sufficient to carry an election on their own (at least, not without some serious shenanigans).
So, somehow the GOP has to open up to gay and latino voters without also alienating their traditional fan base. That’s a narrow line to walk and many of them seem to have just given up on even trying.
