The Science Museum of Minnesota recently started a great new program–child-free programming. By child-free, I mean no one under the age of 21 and featuring science aimed at adults. Tonight, we’re talking brewing.
Wednesday, September 21, 2011
7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Eat, drink and be nerdy. Explore the science of beer brewing and wine making, and roam the museum during a special adult-only evening. Enjoy music, games, live demonstrations and more, and of course all our galleries are open for you to explore.
Prices are cheap for a museum event, and all the cool geeks (what?) are going to be there, my husband and I included. Come hang out!
Stephanie Zvan is one of the hosts for the Minnesota Atheists' radio show and podcast, Atheists Talk. She serves on the board of Secular Woman. She speaks on science and skepticism in a number of venues, including science fiction and fantasy conventions.
Stephanie has been called a science blogger and a sex blogger, but if it means she has to choose just one thing to be or blog about, she's decided she's never going to grow up. In addition to science and sex and the science of sex, you'll find quite a bit of politics here, some economics, a regular short fiction feature, and the occasional bit of concentrated weird.
Oh, and arguments. She sometimes indulges in those as well. But I'm sure everything will be just fine. Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all.
They do this at OMSI in Portland, too. They have OMSI After Dark, as well as Science Pubs in Portland, Hillsboro, and Corvallis, where (as the name implies) scientists gives lecture in pubs, followed by group discussion. It’s pretty cool.
Allie, our science museum does something similar, with what they call their Beaker and Brush series, in which they specifically pair up an artist and a scientist to speak on a topic. A museum connected to our university also does a Cafe Scientifique.
Jodi, the calendar doesn’t exist beyond October at this point, for any of these events. We’ll check closer to your trip.
Will they be doing any of these events in November? So wish I could go! This one was made for me.
