A Return and some Rather Good News

Hello there!

It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I let you all know back in July that I would be taking some time away from the blog. And then, okay, wrote three posts in a row. Which we’ll write off as having been part of the process of packing up my apartment. Specifically the part where I hide in bed for three days doing anything other then putting things in boxes.

Since then, I decided to take a little more time than I had originally planned away from writing. Moving cities is one thing. Moving cities because you’ve been ill for months with something that forced you out of the field you were working in? A whole other thing. A bigger thing.

It’s been a tough few months, but things are finally looking up.

There’s another reason, however, that I haven’t been posting here even though I started writing again weeks ago. You see. I’m not sure how to break this to you, but.. I’ve been seeing other platforms.

That’s right. I’ve been getting my writing published elsewhere. I would have told you beforehand, but.. well, you know how these things go. You think you’re in control and before you know it, you’ve ended up sending off articles to all sorts.

In my case, the ‘all sorts’ in question is the Irish edition of The Times. Which, let’s face it, is more than a little bit exciting. If you’ve a subscription, you can go check out my first article with them. If not, here’s a little taster:

Ireland must welcome refugees – whatever the cost.

Why do we think we are so weak? Here in the EU, in one of the world’s and history’s greatest economic and social powerhouses.

Our union rose from the ruins of a war like none the world had ever seen to become a stark example of the value of working together and sharing resources.Yet, when we are called upon to help others, we downplay everything we have achieved.

Take Ireland, for example. We say we can only afford to take six hundred refugees over two years. Or maybe 1,800 at a push.

What’s six hundred people?

You’re gonna have to subscribe for the rest!

As for this blog: watch this space. This isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of me, and I’ve a bunch of ideas for things I’d like to talk about ’round here. See y’all in a few days!
