An Entirely Expected Hiatus

Every single year it’s the same. Every year I decide that This Christmas Will Be Different. I’ll somehow manage to be organised, get everything sorted, do things according to plan and have a lovely, stress-free time.

Of course, I also daydream that someone will show up on my door and tell me that they’re from the Secret Institute of People With Too Much Money and they were wondering if I’d like them to fund my going back to college forever in between travelling around the world in a surprisingly well-equipped caravan.

The second is far more likely. The SIPWTMM is up there with the FSM in terms of disprovability. There is a hell of a lot of evidence that I merrily toddle along every single year until about the 21st December, at which time I suddenly realise that Christmas is in a couple of days and I have nothing ready and panicpanicpanic.

As it’s difficult to type coherently when you’re running around like a blue-arsed fly, I’m gonna declare a wee hiatus here. Just till the other side of Christmas, or possibly New Year. And then I shall go panic a bit before spending lots of time with my family and friends and having many medicinal hot ports and eating delicious food and telling people how much I love them and falling asleep snuggled up on the sofa watching cheesy movies. I’m not going to say without a doubt that I won’t post till the New Year, but I won’t be writing regularly.

If there’s a festival you’re celebrating around this time of year, I hope you have a wonderful time with those you love. If you’re one of the people for whom this time of year is difficult? I hope it passes quickly and that you have all the distractions you need. It comes around but once a year. Hang in there. And if you’re one of the people who doesn’t celebrate any thing around this time of year? Well, hope you’ve a good few weeks, too.

See you all on the other side! Or, er, probably in between.
