I still don’t see any good excuse for someone to change their baby in the parking lot, and just dump the dirty diaper onto the asphalt, though.    That’s just nasty.

This is not that world.)]]> (Of course, in a perfect world, the situation would not arise, because I would be stridin’ easy in my super exoskeleton, pushing my cart to the rack with a big smile on my face.  Or, possibly, bypassing the need for a shopping cart at all, by simply hooking up a little trailer to my Hoverchair10,000™ and flying my groceries home straight outta the exit.  Or tossing my purchases onto the teleportation plate before popping myself home.

This is not that world.)

Thanks for the reminder, cicely, that I might not have enough information to make a blanket condemnation of anything (in this case, people who don’t return carts to the proper location). I will lodge that away for future reference and try to make sure I’m more precise in my criticisms of people.

….

(As an aside, I would like to offer a brief comment to the shopping-carts-at-parking-spaces annoyance….

If I am using a shopping cart to assist my walking to my car—because my knees are Made of Suck and FAIL—I cannot then walk it to the designated rack.

Can not.

It is not, physically, possible.

Because, then, I would be stranded at the rack, unable to make it back to my car; and also unable to remain standing at the rack, for that matter.  Alackaday and alas; what am I to do?

This is obviously not going to be the case for every instance of Abandoned Cart Syndrome, because the world is, indeed, somewhat overstocked with assholes.  Still, plz to be sparing a thought for us outliers?)

Beatrice:
Nice to know that ‘PC’ is in the midst of destroying other countries as well. I wonder which ones will disintegrate first.

I can confirm that it has been imported elsewhere, and is used just as ridiculously.

And people who say political correctness will also refer to the lives of non-(cis/straight/white men) people as “special interests”.

It’s all the same. I wish the term would just die out. Like you recently said, it’s called treating people with equal respect. Why use a bullshit term for it that has such a negative meaning thanks to the privileged class?

It implies people are being require to follow certain rules for pure political gain But, as Rush Limbaugh proved by using the phrase very frequently starting in the early 1990s and continuing up to the present, it’s quite possible for someone to have a long, and highly politically influential career built primarily on doing the direct opposite. It’s terrible but true: in our culture, there is political advantage to be gained by DISrespecting marginalized groups. (It’s true Rush eventually got brought down by a long and dedicated activist campaign. But that wasn’t easy … and he still was a huge influence for well over 20 years.)
