Selk’bag is a sleepwear company that makes, well, sleeping bags (the name is taken from the Selk’nam, a nomadic tribe of indigenous peoples of southern Argentina and Chile; due to western colonization, the last full blooded member of the Selk’nam tribe died in 1974). The company recently launched a line of sleeping bags based on Marvel Comics superheroes:
All the heroes are male. I guess Selk’bag isn’t too concerned with marketing to girls and women. Of course that begs the question of why they have a woman wearing the Iron Man bag. Does that mean they want women and girls to buy these? Did it not occur to them that girls and women might like to have the option of a female superhero bag? It’s not like there aren’t any female superheroes-the Wasp, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Storm are ones that spring to mind immediately (though there are many more). I realize they only have 4 sleeping bags, but is it too much to ask that one of the bags be based on a female Marvel hero? I shot the company an email inquiring about this. I’m curious to know what their answer will be.
