What movie am I?

I am based on a board game.

I debuted in 1985.

I am a movie starring Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Chrisopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, Colleen Camp, and Lee Ving.

I am a movie where you will hear “1 plus 1 plus 2 plus 1”.

I am a movie with a candlestick.

And a rope.

And a knife.

And a lead pipe.

And a revolver.

And a wrench.

I am a movie with a singing telegram girl woman.

I am one of Tony’s favorite movies, despite a poor box office performance.

It spoofs murder mysteries, in general. Several stand-ins for famous detectives from fiction receive mysterious invitations to “dinner and a murder”; the detective who solves the murder will receive a million dollar prize.

Heck, Wikipedia can sum it up better than I can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_by_Death

Extra fun can be had at the TV Tropes entry for the film: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/MurderByDeath?from=Main.MurderByDeath

It is my very favoritest murder mystery. 🙂

I’d say that it bears a similar relationship to the murder mystery genre, that Galaxy Quest (another big fave of mine!) does to Star Trek, especially the Original Series.
