Hey There, Internet!

Well hello there! Welcome to The Orbit, and a special hello to those of you visiting my blog in particular. ;]

For those of you who aren’t familiar with me [probably most people], allow me to introduce myself: I’m Luxander, a genderqueer trans dude, poly-pansexual flower, atheist, feminist, and YouTuber.

I started my blogging career on Blogger, as so many of us have, beginning some time in high school. That blog moved to WordPress at an unknown date. My semi-professional career started with Teen Skepchick back in 2012, followed by Queereka later that year. A couple of my pieces were crossposted to the main Skepchick blog during my tenure on that network. I stepped down from those positions due to depression in late 2013, and was invited by Zinnia Jones to co-blog with her at Freethought Blogs in early 2014.

Now, I get my own space on a super awesome network with some of the most spectacular people I could ever imagine calling my peers, colleagues, and friends! I feel so honored and privileged to be part of this project, and I hope you’re as excited about it as I am.

I’ve also had the amazing experience of getting to speak on panels at CONvergence, which is an incredible sci-fi convention held annually in Minneapolis. Skepchick and FTB both have an official presence there via the Science Tract, and I’m excited to say I’ll be returning this year as a panelist! Stay tuned for updates on that as they come out; the panels look to be very engaging, diverse, and nerdy as all hell. Even as a simple attendee last year, I had so much fun and this year will be even better.

Aside from blogging and panelling, I run two YouTube channels. My main channel, thoughtfully dubbed “Luxander Pond,” started about 2 years ago and covers my experience with hormonal transition, thoughts about gender in general, raw expressions of what it’s like to live with mental illness… and throws in the occasional cat video. Some of my early videos also talked about religion and I’m thinking of revisiting those topics, specifically why religiosity and mental illness are not the same thing.

This year, I joyfully launched a Let’s Play style gaming channel with the help of my backers on Indiegogo. (Seriously, I’m still eternally grateful.) The channel is called Lux Play, and my only goal is to be a trans person with a gaming channel. Round of applause, I have succeeded!

But seriously, both YouTube culture and gaming culture lack representation of minorities. The three big gaming YouTubers I can think of off the top of my head are cis, male, hetero, and at least white-passing. (Markiplier is half Korean but most people don’t know that until he says so.) I want to break at least some of those barriers just by being there, making content. My current schedule is one video per week, posted Wednesday mornings. I’m doing an I-don’t-know-what-the-fuck-I’m-doing playthrough of Undertale and enjoying the rollercoaster ride.

That about sums up all the interesting things about me! I sincerely hope you like what we do here at The Orbit, and look forward to providing you with content and engaging with you to establish a solid community. See you around!
