Weird login redirect issue should be fixed

Some folks have complained that when clicking on the FtB logo above the comment forms at any blog where anonymous comments are allowed, they were being redirected to a presently-useless dashboard page and had to manually navigate back to the thread they wanted to post at. This isn’t the behaviour exhibited on blogs that require sign-in — the login links send you back to the post you were at, after logging in via the WordPress login form.

I’ve committed a change on the live site that should fix this, constructing the “log in” link added by the theme, identically to how the Graphene-stock link is constructed. As an added kindness, I’ve also changed the top “Account Dashboard” icon (the WordPress icon) to go to the blog’s dashboard, rather than the whole site’s, just in case you happen to be a subscriber / submitter / author. Regular users shouldn’t be affected, but I’m letting you know regardless.

I’ve tested these changes, but I’m not 100% sure I’ve covered all border cases. If there are issues, let me know here please.

Using Firefox or Chrome I’ve been opening the sign-in link in another tab, closing the tab once is says I have logged in, and reloaded the original page to register my logging in. A bit of a two-step but simple enough once you have done it once or twice.

Having to tweak it a bit to get it all to work reminds me on an old car I had, it is sort of a lovable quaintness.

I just logged in on Stephanie’s blog (using the link at the bottom of the left sidebar), and it took me to the dashboard page.

I generally use a large rock to fix my computer problems.

    It is satisfying.

If no rock available, a large chunk of ice (up here in the frozen north) will do.

    Hope this helps…

blorf / sisu: Yes, that’s functioning normally. We have plans for the dashboard for the future, so people do still need to be able to get there.

If you want to log in and return where you were, the link above the comment form is the best way to do it presently.

    Thanks for fixing it, Jason,
and while you’re at it: The URL (as opposed to leads to some orange-and-blue “Default Website Page”, instead of redirecting to the www subdomain. Judging from my bookmarks (and how stumped I was to only reach the default page in the last 24h), this used to be different before… want to fix? Not sure if anybody else wanted to save the 4 keystrokes and is now wondering where FTB went. 🙂

Well, howdeedoo, it’s back! This time I was navigating to the FtB main page from Mano Singham’s blog.

Allow me, though, to add my thanks for all the work you do in front of, and behind, the scenes. I almost never comment, but I visit many of the blogs here daily.
