Hawkeye is in this movie? The character arcs that need to be serviced in this movie are going to make the script a enough of a mess without introducing yet another character. Plus we have a villian(who?) to deal with.

Maybe good storytelling doesn’t matter in a movie like this but I hope there is at least some effort.

The poster looks like a bad photoshop project to me. Images of people from stock sources force inserted onto a background.

So I’m looking at this poster of what are supposed to be Avengers, and I don’t see a single Grumman in the lot. Unless that thing descending in flames in the background is supposed to be a TBF. Doesn’t look like Daddy Bush’s plane.

I’m disappointed.

Look at Captain America in that poster, relative to Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury. Caps got to be at least 8 feet tall! Plus, Hulk is the one doing the most stereotypically female pose: arched back, chest thrown forward, ass towards the camera.

Look at her pose again. Black Widow is posed identically like a publicity still of Kate Beckinsale from “Underworld.” Do a quick search of images from the film and you will find it.

Interesting... it does indeed look like the North American release is still called The Avengers. So I picked up the UK poster instead. Ysanne: in comics, this pose is often held by women, specifically so that the artist has a reason to draw both butt cheeks and both breasts in the shot at the same time. It usually involves a significant amount of spine-breakage and organ-removal to do it, and it's usually male gaze. Yes, it's overused, and it's the "OMG something just snuck up on me" pose, but in comics, you'll often see women heading into battle in that pose. As in, they know where the enemy is, and they're twisting for the audience for no reason whatsoever. See Escher Girls for reference material.

Here in the UK we watch films in the Cinema, not movies in the movie theatre. I guess this is the British poster.

What the hell is wrong with Iron Man’s pose? It’s the classic “he looks up/over his shoulder and sees that he needs to defend himself and *wooosh* turns around and blasts!” pose, used to give the impression of dynamics. As in, the character is depicted mid-motion and not standing there in a boring wooden position.
Yeah, so it’s a bit cliche and showy and overly dramatic — fits the genre perfectly. It’s O.K. anatomically, he doesn’t do a stupid pout… where’s the problem?
