The death spiral is steeper than we thought

Nicked from Pharyngula. The IPCC was wrong in being too conservative. I’d take this moment to point out that the denialists are empirically wrong on yet another point, but I’m too busy despairing.

The interconnectedness of all things is amazing, but daunting. We have so much responsibility vested in us by nature, by making it to the top of the food chain, and we’re probably the most irresponsible species on the planet. Either we grow up right now, or we die as a species and take much of the rest of the planet with us.

Either we grow up right now, or we die as a species and take much of the rest of the planet with us.

The thing I object most about the majority of denialists is their objections are sociological and economic. But, with a few exceptions, they’re too craven to admit it. So they “attack” the science instead.

Well guess what, denialists, it looks like you’re going to have to bite the bullet and change your lifestyles. Either that, or you’re going to die. And since I don’t want to die with you, I’m going to do everything I can to make you change.

    Terrifying.

Have you noticed that the less science people know, the more they’re convinced that it’s all a hoax? You know, people who can’t tell an ice core from an ice sheet? People who think a million tons ejected from a volcano means a million tons of CO2 and no lava at all?

    Sometimes I despair too.
