DNS woes

Two events: my hosting company was recently flagged as “malware” on my site’s server’s IP, which became apparent when I tried to log into my Cpanel; and now my site appears to have been migrated to a new IP late last night. I’m not sure if this is directly correlated, but there’s a good chance. Anyway, until just recently, I was using Xname.org for my DNS hosting, in an effort to use the subdomains function of my hosting package, so when the server’s IP changed, my DNS servers had no clue. I never could get that subdomain feature working though, and when I tried to update Xname four hours or so ago, it’s still not updating server-side. So, I’ve moved the nameservers back onto the hosting company’s. There will be more downtime before DNS is appropriately propagated.

I guess I ought to know better than to expect that my using alternate DNS servers just to be able to tinker with some DNS zone files wouldn’t eventually come back and bite me on the ass.
