I am making a resolution to disengage.

Brother Sam makes several excellent points on why people get into debates about religion, and has a good deal of insight about what I’ve been doing wrong in engaging Zdenny as of late. So, except for where his ridiculous arguments are directly and demonstrably hateful, I will disengage. No amount of evidence, logic, or rationality will ever penetrate his religious “armor” with which he has girded his mind, so it is not profitable, nor is it fun, to discuss these things with him. It actually makes me very sad that no matter how often I’ve tried, and no matter how well I’ve argued, fully zero has altered his arguments or debating tactics. I don’t intend to convert him, just to make him reflect on his beliefs and maybe reconsider some of his thoughts about non-Christians. You know, to show the “love” that he supposedly has, and stop trying to “save” (read: infect) others with his belief system.

Zdenny, if you think my disengaging with you means you win, then fine, I’m willing to let you think that. But remember: if you preach hateful ideas like that atheists are incapable of love, I will re-engage you on those points alone. If you desire discourse with me, as you so obviously do, I’ve given you the very roadmap on how to troll me — just continue to act like a hate-filled little man, and I’m right there in your face, I promise.

I hope you at least watch THIS video (despite your not watching many others that I’ve posted for your edification alone), and understand what you’re doing that makes you such a difficult person to have a decent conversation with.

That’s what I told the judge. It didn’t help.

    Hahaha! Brilliant.

By the way, I do believe people have souls.

Only I call it something different.

Jason I wanted to thank you for the great discussion. I should point out that the reason you are giving up is because you don’t know what love is. Unconditional love never gives up! In the video, the guy argues that some people are just not worth his time. Christians on the other hand believe everyone is worth the time.

The discussion started about love and it appears that our audience can now clearly see the love that never fails versus a love that is conditional, chemical, and materialistically based.

I hope you understand that I find your blog interesting. As a result of our discussion, I appreciate you more and more as a person.

In order to truly understand someone else, you have to see that they have a soul. Since everyone has a soul, everyone is important.

In atheistic thought, every person is just as important as a rock. I have concluded that I must be a rock in your eye, when in fact I’m trying to help see the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The brain is the most amazing design ever imagined! Did you know that we still have no idea how the mind is able to unify vision and then make decisions regarding those images that are seen.

I find it interesting that Atheist believe that a brain just designed itself over millions of years… :)0(

I should point out that the reason you are giving up is because you don’t know what love is.

I should point out that the reason you make such statements is because you are a deluded fool.

I have decided that it is not worth my time to attempt to teach a chimpanzee to write Hollywood screenplays. I do think the results might be better than the mainstream movies in many cases, but I digress. I have concluded that it is an utter waste of my time to attempt to enlighten most closed-minded, bigoted, bible-thumping creationists as to the wonders of science and reality.

I’m still waiting for empirical evidence of this “god’s love”. Oh, wait. I forgot. You don’t have any because it doesn’t exist.

In order to truly understand someone else, you have to see that they have a soul. Since everyone has a soul, everyone is important.

Once again, empirical evidence is demanded. Without it, your arguments mean absolutely nothing.

In atheistic thought, every person is just as important as a rock. I have concluded that I must be a rock in your eye, when in fact I’m trying to help see the love of God that is found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And still, you have absolutely no idea what atheists are really like. You are misinformed, and refuse to listen to anything that refutes your already made-up mind about the matter. You, sir, are a fool.

I really don’t have time to muck about much, what with two unit tests for psych and two finals – and leaving in less than an hour for TN to get my kids. And honestly, I have far more important things to do with my life than to play wackamole with someone who just repeats the same stupidity over and over again…But…

Did you know that we still have no idea how the mind is able to unify vision and then make decisions regarding those images that are seen.

Did you know that you haven’t the faintest fucking clue what the hell you’re talking about? You remember that post of mine – the one in which I posted some links for your edification?

Go back and click on the link for basic neurobiology…

I’ve yet to see direct evidence that he has read/watched and understood anything that any of us has posted, DuWayne… I don’t hold a lot of hope that he’ll research neurobiology in order to figure out just how big a failure his comment was.

There’s little you can do. ZDENNY is much like many other folks: unwilling to learn, for fear of discovering they are wrong. Or, they are so certain they are right, they won’t bother learning what other people know, even for the sake of carrying on an intelligent, informed discussion.

I was married to a fundamentalist Christian when I was very young, and thought that faith was orthogonal to science. Once I suggested she read “The Blind Watchmaker,” and I would read two of her books on evolution. I read the books. To “research” evolution, she re-read her books, rather than the ones I suggested. For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to read books on evolution written by people who actually knew what they were talking about.

I learned then that even intelligent, eminently-reasonable people can be completely irrational when it comes to their faith. There was nothing I could do to convince her to read “the other side.” Instead, she stuck with books that claimed the second law of thermodynamics prevents evolution, and old saws like that.

I also learned that you can’t accommodate that which will not accommodate you.

Mr. Singleton is right. There’s no reason to try to discuss these things with folks like ZDENNY. Or, like my dad always said, “Never try to teach a pig to whistle. It’ll only frustrate you, and annoy the pig.” He’s not interested in discussion, only the opportunity to witness.

I also learned that you can’t accommodate that which will not accommodate you.

    Bingo.

And that’s exactly the lesson I have learned, from this month-long wall-headbutting to which I had subjected myself.
