Welcome to The Orbit!
This is my new blogging home. It’s a new blogging network, specifically dedicated to atheism and social justice, co-founded by over twenty bloggers including me.
I’ll have a lot more to say about it in the coming days. For now, I mostly just want to say Welcome! I am hugely excited and happy to be here. I’m excited to be a co-builder of something new: I think The Orbit is going to be an important and valuable place for atheists who care about social justice, and I’m so proud to be part of creating it. A lot of atheists have felt increasingly disconnected from organized atheism, and we hope to give these people a home. In fact, we hope to give a home to anyone who cares about the things we care about.
If you want to find out more about us — our mission, who we are, how we’re structured, why we chose The Orbit as our name, what’s unique about us, what we even mean by social justice — please visit our About Us page. You can also ask me questions here in the comments, but I can’t promise to answer all or even any of them: I’m a little swamped right now, as you might imagine.
The other bloggers currently in The Orbit are Alex Gabriel, Alix Jules, Alyssa Gonzalez, Ani, Ania Bula, Aoife O’Riordan, Ashley F. Miller, Benny Vimes, Brianne Bilyeu, Chris Hall, D. Frederick Sparks, Dana Hunter, Dori Mooneyham, Heina Dadabhoy, Jason Thibeault, Luxander Pond, Miri Mogilevsky, Niki M., Sincere Kirabo, Stephanie Zvan, Tony Thompson, and Zinnia Jones. I hope you’ll take some time and visit all of them over the coming days and weeks: pulling together this roster has been one of the most fun and exciting parts of this process, and I am so excited to be working with these people, I cannot even tell you.
We’ll probably be shaking out a few tech issues over the next few days. If you run into any problems, please let us know — and please be patient. And if you’re excited and happy about this, please help us out if you can — kick in to our Kickstarter campaign to help cover our operating costs (even small amounts help, they really do add up), or just spread the word about us. Welcome to my new home!
Thank you, thank you. I will def. be supporting the kickstarter. I’ve felt like such an anomaly in the “mainstream” atheist and secular groups, which are so heavily weighted to libertarian reactionists and (ironically, IMHO) social conservatives. I’m tired of the deification of the likes of Dawkins and Harris. We need the voices of The Orbit and I’m thrilled you all have come together to make this happen.
Over the years I’ve followed you and your writing from Typepad to FTB to here. It’s great to see one more website explicitly focused on intersectional, social justice-oriented atheist advocacy, and I wish the best for the launch and transition.
[…] Christina, one of the women I featured in my International Women’s Day post, announced her new blogging home on The Orbit, a site dedicated to atheism and social justice. As with animal rights and veganism, the atheist […]
Congrats on the new home! Any chance of getting RSS added here? I know I’m in an extreme minority who still uses it, but I like having one feed that shows me when all my favorite blogs have updated without having to click through all of them multiple times a day to see what has updates. I do still click through for the comments, so I’m still giving hits to the page.
Thanks!
Congratulations on the new site launch. Always good to see a new network coming about. Here’s hoping The Orbit be a huge success for all of you in the network. Bookmark updated 😉
Great to see such a terrific group assembled in one place. All the best!
Congratulations on the new site, Greta!
#4 (Craig) – I use RSS too! There’s a feed for the whole site at http://the-orbit.net/network-feed/ that worked when I plugged it into feedly.com. When I put just Greta’s page at https://the-orbit.net/greta/ into the feed reader it gave me other authors’ pages also, so maybe they still have some kinks to work out…
Thanks, Pax Ahimsa Gethen. I added https://the-orbit.net/greta/ (not https://the-orbit.net/greta/feed) and am only getting posts from her.

The “About Us” page is exciting to read, I like seeing a vision like this, and I like the “niche” that this site fills.
There’s only one thing I can think of that I wish was added (and this is something I’ve said to other progressives too) and that is a commitment to progressive Epistemology, which is vital to correctly forming your progressive politics and morality and all that.
It’s something that I wish was more explicitly valued among progressives.
