Way of the Heathen final cover with border 400

I’m finishing the draft of my new book, The Way of the Heathen: Practicing Atheism in Everyday Life. (Scheduled for publication June 1; and yes, you can pre-order it on Amazon.)

So I’m taking a blog break. I’ll be back sometime after January 15. See you then!

I’m glad to hear you have another book coming out. I’m looking forward to it. I always enjoy your books on the topic of atheism.

If you don’t mind, I would like to ask a question that might seem a bit off topic. I ask you because you have written and published several successful books. Almost four years ago, I donated to this kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/skepticsguidetoislam/a-skeptics-guide-to-islam/ by your fellow network blogger Heina Dadabhoy. I donated $25 in order to receive a print copy of the book. She claimed that she already had a contract with a publisher, and that the book would be out in late 2012/early 2013.

It is now 2016 and there is no sign of the book that many people have already paid her for. She has given a few sporadic updates claiming issues with her publisher, the last one claiming that there was a hard publication date of Dec. 2015. Obviously that date has passed. I have attempted to contact her through Twitter and get blog, and have received no response.

Are situations like this normal in the publishing industry? Have I been ripped off?

Congratulations on another project soon to be put to bed.

#2 Uh…this post isn’t about kickstarter, or Heina. I don’t see why Christina should know any more about this situation than you do.

It isn’t THAT big a delay from December, even if the accumulated stalling is annoying. Is there any identification given for the actual publisher? I would think that would be the place to start, since Heina has very little control over them and they are the ones who’ll actually print and ship.

I read the blurb for it at Amazon. It looks interesting. But I only wish to read it when it comes out in e-book form — I don’t want to load myself down with dead-tree books. I already have a lot of such books that I continue to hold on to because there are no e-book forms of them available, legitimate or otherwise.

“The way we deal with life — with love and sex, pleasure and death, reality and making stuff up —can change dramatically when we stop believing in gods, souls, and afterlives.” I am a lifelong atheist, and I’ve always believed in a metaphysical-naturalistic worldview, so my experience is a bit limited in that regard. I wouldn’t have as much to say as our host.

I also like that cover picture. In that and others, our host seems to like being portrayed as wearing flat-soled shoes. But what’s with the short skirt? Some feminists would consider that sexual exploitation, though they’d like the shoes. I note the shoes because some women grumble about how awkward and troublesome high heels are.

lpetrich @ #6: The book will be published as an ebook as well as a dead-tree book. All my books are available in ebook, audiobook, and paper formats. The ebook publication will probably be at the same time as the print publication.
