Atheist Memes on Facebook: Atheism is Not Religion

Scarlet letter
I’m doing a project on my Facebook page: The Atheist Meme of the Day. Every weekday, I’m going to post a short, pithy, Facebook-ready atheist meme… in the hopes that people will spread them, and that eventually, the ideas will get through. If you want to play, please feel free to pass these on through your own Facebook page, or whatever forum or social networking site you like. Or if you don’t like mine, edit them as you see fit, or make some of your own.

Today’s Atheist Meme of the Day:

Atheism is not a religion or a faith. It is not a 100% certain belief in the non-existence of God; and it is no more a faith than not believing in unicorns. Atheism is simply the conclusion that the evidence for religion is weak at best — and that unless we see better evidence, we’re going to assume that God doesn’t exist. Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it may get across.

Agnostics are puzzled: Where is God? Why this confusion? But also: Why is there belief in the occult? How do the possessed levitate? Why are there provable ‘Miracles’? So true agnostics keep an open-mind, considering carefully new ideas that might logically explain these phenomena.
Abbott, writing ‘Flatland’ explained contiguous geometric worlds to solve the difficulties. Now ‘Techie Worlds’ examines impossible concepts like trinity, resurrection, judgment, souls and more, showing they are logical and reasonable in the context of contiguous geometrical worlds. That is the way of science: to examine phenomena in the light of theory.
Neither approach can be proved or dis-proved, but the advantages of life and nature weigh towards the Christian view, teaching the way of love.. ‘Techie Worlds’ (available from amazon.com) by explaining clearly how God does it, will bring Moslems and Jews to the teachings of Jesus. Techie Worlds is definitely not the same old harangue, but is logical, using a mechanistic basis for explaining how the worlds are built and how the Christian view is for real.

    GeorgeRic:

    How do the possessed levitate?

Please provide evidence that anyone – “possessed” or otherwise – levitates at all. Please provide some testable definition of “possessed”. Please show evidence that someone meets your definition of “possessed”. Until you have done those things, we must assert that no-one has been shown to be “possessed”, and no-one has been shown to be able to levitate. (Note: Drow are a fictional race, invented by Gary Gygax for the Dungeons and Dragons game. Their power of levitation has no relevance to the real world.)

    Why are there provable ‘Miracles’?

Please provide evidence for a “miracle”. Until someone does that, there is no reason to believe that there are “miracles”.
As for the rest of your comment, it makes more sense after a little M-x disassociated-press :

Techie Worlds is definitely not the same old harangue, but is logical, using a mechanistic basis for explaining how the worlds are built and how the Christian view is for real. Why is there belief in the occult?

Among other things: Because the human mind is wired by evolution to see intention, even where no intention exists; to see patterns, even where no pattern exists; to believe what is comforting to believe; to trust what authority figures and people they know tell them; and to believe what they were taught as children. Read “Breaking the Spell” by Daniel Dennett for more.

    How do the possessed levitate?

They don’t. Name me one case of levitation that has been confirmed by a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, rigorously cross-checked, peer-reviewed process.

    Why are there provable ‘Miracles’?

There aren’t. Name me one “miracle” that has been confirmed by a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, rigorously cross-checked, peer-reviewed process.
    But thank you for sharing.

    GeorgeRic:
If you believe that “the Christian view” is “the way of love,” you need to read a lot more of the atheism-related posts on this blog.
I suggest that you start with “Atheists and Anger” and “The Messed-Up Teachings of Jesus.”

George has popped by my blog to peddle his book, as well. I used his “god and angels in another hidden dimension” idea to bounce into a comment about a favourite Stargate episide. Makes me want to watch it again now.
Good luck with book sales, George.
