I Am Abandoning Y’all For My Favorite Volcano. Yes, Again.

Between various things going on both in my personal life and online, my ability to cope with people is nearing absolute zero. Alas, our house is being invaded by a great many people starting tonight. I may stick around for the big par-tay, but I am most definitely cutting out for the rest of the weekend. Already got me reservations at a nice little place on the Lewis River, don’t I just? Already made plans to explore the air-conditioned wonders of the various west-side Mount St. Helens visitors’ centers with Suzanne, haven’t I? Ja, you betcha!

We’re going to get to see the newly-remodeled VC at Coldwater Ridge, which has been retasked for science! and has the most magnificent views over Coldwater Lake. It’s only open on Saturdays and Sundays, and since B and I typically try to avoid weekend crowds, we’ve never been able to catch it open. They block off the road, so I haven’t been able to get up there with the new camera yet. This should be epic.

Image shows Mount St. Helens, with Johnston Ridge and a lovely blue sliver of lake settled amidst much greenery.
Mount St. Helens and Coldwater Lake from the Coldwater Ridge Visitor’s Center. There’s a mighty fine delta, if you know where to look. Hooray for hydrogeology!

Imagine how much better that view will be with the current camera!

As for today and Friday, I’ll either be doing Seaquest Park by me lonesome, or hitting up some good southside stuff, or both, depending on how lazy I feel and how persuasive S is about me attending the party tonight. That’s the nice thing about being able to travel alone for once.

I’ll have access to wi-fi in the evenings, so you’ll get some delicious sneak-peeks. See ya on the volcano!

HAVE SO MUCH FUN! Hope it’s a good break. Please enjoy yourself, stay safe (watch out for hiding rocks), and I look forward to the photos upon your return!!!
And I believe you forgot the obligatory meme about writing a book on this subject. ;)

Thank you! I believe I’ll call it an alluvial fan delta then. Although the alluvial fan part is clearly no longer active, being covered with trees.
