Lithified Detritus was salivating over one of the Mount Rainier photos, and I figure when one of you demands more publicly, many more were shouting “Please oh please!” in their heads.
This post is for you, my dears.
First, a stage-setter:
If you click on the above, it should take you to the full-sized extravaganza. You’re welcome.
Now, see where the Nisqually River is born:
There you are. Because I love you all, and you should have all of the beautiful things!
Beautiful! Thank you!
Clicking on the images is definitely worthwhile. The photos make clear the tremendous erosive power of glaciers, as well as the depressing fact that this glacier was larger in the not too distant past.
My Bucket list includes a trip to Glacier National Park, preferably while there are still some glaciers to be seen.
I can’t help wondering how much farther down the valley that glacier extended just 10 or 20 years ago. Time for a Google search — or would be if the cat wasn’t telling me it’s nap time.
Here is a brief summary & map.
Several sources indicate that the glacier is thickening upslope, and should begin to advance.
Hot damn! Thank you.
Thank you for that!
