Saturday Song: Escala

Once again, we have reached the point in the week where there’ll be no Los Links for you if Dana doesn’t get her reading done.

So here’s a lovely video and a version of “Palladio” you may not have heard, even if you have heard “Palladio,” which you may not have done.

And the album version, for comparison’s sake, and also because I love it:

I know, I’m killing my metal cred with all this stuff. But I’ve been a fan of classical and classical-inspired music since blasting Beethoven and Vivaldi in a Cadillac El Dorado whilst wearing headbanger clothes in high school. Lookers-on have absolutely no idea what to do with that.

I have yet to see an Escala Palladio video on YouTube where the composer, Karl Jenkins, is credited in the info. The occasional commenter has a vague realization that it’s the background music to Zales diamond commercials…

These guys are reminiscent of Apocalyptica. If you want to hear the coolest Metallica interpretations on cello, check ’em out.

Gorgeous… Have an old friend who back in the days when people wandered about with gigantic boom boxes on their shoulders playing various forms of urban pop, would walk around Manhattan with his blasting Wagner.

I’ve always loved heavy music whether it be a power trio playing metal, a crew of angry punks or a full orchestra playing classics.

Wow an El Dorado – that brings back memories. Related blast from the past – how about this one … Try sliding around in the bed of a green Chevy El Camino while your aunt is tooling around Wyoming blasting bagpipe music. Musical taste generally only matches outward appearance in the most boring of people.
