Hey, Seattle! Come Out for Some Theatre and My Imminent Public Humiliation!

Yeah, I know. It’s the Winter Writing Season: I’m supposed to spend my days off with me arse superglued to my chair and bleeding words all over the keyboard. However. I’m ungluing my butt on Sunday and heading out into the big, wide world for a little entertainment and some possible public humiliation.

You know you wanna be there.

Jen McCreight invited me to join the Skepticism 101 panel at GeekGirlCon. I said yes. I didn’t spend any time thinking about it before I said yes, because if I’d thought about it, I’d have said no. Damn it, Jim, I’m a writer, not a public speaker! But, I have Jen, Surly Amy, Valerie Tarico, and Meg Winston to hide behind. I might even say something clever. Or I may just stare at the crowd with my eyes popping out like a strangled koi and dribble on myself. Either way, you should absolutely come out and see us. Don’t mind me: you’ve got plenty of wise and wonderful women to listen to! Tickets to ye grande evente can be found here.

I wish I could tell you I’ll be around for most of the day afterward, but I’ve got no more than an hour before I’ve got to skedaddle down to Burien to see Frankenstein. It’s being put on by Burien Little Theatre. I didn’t used to be much in to community theatre, but a friend dragged me to a show there once, and once was all it took. That little theatre does some truly remarkable things. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve had my mind (further) warped for life. And I’ve become so enchanted with them that I’ve started doing a desultory bit of volunteer work there, such as liveblogging their 24-hour fundraiser. Didn’t have me own login back then, but I do now. Woot!

It’s October, it’s Seattle, and so it’s the perfect time to go see some Frankenstein. Tickets can be acquired here or at the door. If you’re in the area, you should come join me. It’ll be a grand good time, and I’ll need a few shoulders to cry on after making an unutterable fool of myself at GeekGirlCon.

Last real outing I’m having before summer, aside from the occasional foray down to Burien for a show, so if you want to see me in the flesh, this is your best opportunity.

It’s a bit nerve-wracking the first time you do paneling, but don’t worry about it. When you have enough to say to maintain a blog of this quality, you have more than enough to say on a shared panel. You’ll be fine.

If that thought fails you, just pretend the audience is a bunch of rocks.

/sigh. I live in the wrong part of the country for conventions, or at least conventions featuring people/events I actually have an interesting in going to see.
