I took this photo for the Powderhorn365 project on Saturday:

A sled made to look like a garden bed with a cardboard sunflower rising up. An adult and several kids are holding on and the sled has started to turn sideways. A crowd on onlookers stands several deep, cheering and smiling for the sledders.

This was shot at the 2016 Art Sled Rally in Powderhorn Park. Dozens and dozens of people built sleds with wood, cardboard, paper mache and other common supplies, and they each took their turn sledding down the run that the festival built using hay bale squares.

A giant house sled filled with people, made of wood, paper and cardboard slides down the snowy hill past cheering onlookers.

Two sledders put the finishing touches - paper bowl suction cups - on the tentacles of their squid sled. In the background are other sleds - a tie fighter and a tube of lipstick.

Two yellow safety vest clad volunteers move a cardboard snow snake away from the track.

Two sledders seated in their own ruby red high heel sleds, ride down the slope side-by-side. The crowd cheers in the background.

Like NASCAR, one of the things that the crowd loves is a good crash. And there were some epic crashes. Our shoe sledders were laughing so hard when they came to a stop that it took them several moments to stand and move off the course.

Two sledders lay where they landed, laughing as they climb out of the wreckage of their cardboard shoe sleds.

While the majority of people were gathered around the Art Sled Rally track to watch the art sleds, there was plenty of non-competitive sledding happening in other parts of the park.

A man pulls two kids in a oragnge sled up a hill, while a woman walks alongside. The Art Sled Rally track can be seen in the background.

~

Two children slide down a hill with big smiles. One is firmly in the small blue round sled; the other appears to be holding on to the side of the sled.

~

A child slides down a hill on a boogie board - face first on his stomach. His face looks happy and excited, but his eyes are closed tight and his mouth is open in a large, grinning yell.
