I do love the tagline: “Make dead permanent.”

In an interview in thedaily.com company spokesman Everett Deger and Zombie Survival Guide author Max Brooks admit that the bullets do have a few drawbacks:

“The truth of the matter is, bullets are false confidence and bullets are a finite resource,” he said of Hornady’s zombie bullets. “I prefer something that doesn’t need reloading.”

Brooks, who swears by the machete, said if you do opt for a gun, always aim for the head.

“You don’t shoot ’em in the heart, it doesn’t work — it’s like they’re from Wall Street.”

    On tech deal sites, it’s not all that uncommon to see machetes come up at like 5x the cost of what they should be with a tag like Zombie Defense.

    Personally, I don’t see the point in melee weapons when dealing with zombies, they’re treated in films as being super contagious, where even a small scratch will kill and turn someone, yet the pop culture means of dealing with them is to wade into a horde of them and swing away, splattering their highly infected blood all over you. (especially with chainsaws, where the wielder is shown covered in the blood of his enemies, yet if a single drop is as contagious as they show, then if they rub their eyes, or breath in too hard and inhale, or some drips into their mouth or a would, it’d be game over.)

    Im not really a zombie fan, and don’t really get what most people see in them, but at least find it a little funny that they used to be used as symbols of consumerism gone mad…and now you can over charge for a machete because you can say its for fighting zombies.

    I thought regular bullets worked just fine against zombies as long as you damaged the brain. Even a .22 short will work if applied directly to the forehead.

    Alas, Ive never fired a gun, in spite of growing up in a gun owning household. I’m a melee weapons guy. Alas, my chosen weapons are the long shamboks and the filipino cavalry sword. The shamboks is mostly a pain attack. A shot to the head might rip off an ear or nose. Devastating against humans and illegal in Texas, though I could carry a gun concealed if I went through training and a background check. A long shamboks beats a gun at less than ten feet. But zombies feel no pain. The shamboks is a kind of whip club the Zulu and Sotho nations used to decapitate snakes and turn away charging bulls. And my sword is useless too. It relies on bleeding and limb damage. A perfect shot with the sword might work, but its mostly useless.

    I thing the shamboks would be quite effective against normal human raiders. Maybe I can stay back and defend the base.
