Can They See Irony?

Oh, dear. It turns out some U.S. nuns are just too independent.

The Vatican orthodoxy watchdog announced Wednesday a full-scale overhaul of the largest umbrella group for nuns in the United States, accusing the group of taking positions that undermine Roman Catholic teaching on the priesthood and homosexuality while promoting “certain radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith.”

What “radical feminist themes” would that be?

“Some commentaries on ‘patriarchy’ distort the way in which Jesus has structured sacramental life in the church,” the authors of the report wrote.

And just how is sacramental life in the church to be structured for these nuns?

An American archbishop was appointed to oversee reform of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which will include rewriting the group’s statutes, reviewing all its plans and programs — including approving speakers — and ensuring the organization properly follows Catholic prayer and ritual.

Yes, no patriarchy there at all. It’s just just a misunderstanding, I’m sure.

I wonder what the Holy Father thinks of this “patriarchy” nonsense…oh, wait.

I know a few real life nuns who are pretty pissed about this. I keep asking them why they stay, and they say it’s because they believe. So, the next question is, can’t you believe without the pope’s sayso?

It is such a crock…the nuns are were accused of “focusing too much on poverty and economic injustice while remaining silent on topics such as same-sex marriage and abortion”…this is radical feminism? By the way, I didn’t Cardinal Dolan just petition members of Congress to help the poor? The hypocrisy of the Church knows no limits. Unfortunately, neither does their misogyny.

Vatican officials also castigated the group for making some public statements that “disagree with or challenge positions taken by the bishops,” who are the church’s authentic teachers of faith and morals.”

Translation: Women get to do the scut work, men, and only men, get to rape kids have authentic faith and morals.

It’s hard to understand how any woman who is a true believer can reconcile her membership in the Catholic Church with the Vatican’s position that women, because they are female, are incapable of knowing their faith.

The thing is, the bishops are the authentic teachers of that religion’s faith and morals.

The agenda is to confuse, brainwash, blackmail and oppress the masses in order that they provide wealth and power to the church leaders, who are male. It’s an old school patriarchal religion. If the nuns have a problem with it, then they really DO NOT KNOW THEIR FAITH.

It always floors me when caring, intelligent hard working social activists like these stay in the church. They could do much of what they do without the support of the church. And doing it as members of the church, they prop it up and support it. The creeps and abusers who are the people in power get to claim credit for the good these women do.

So really, I’m more baffled by the nuns than the bishops. The bishops are just creepy sociopaths and narcissists. The nuns are complicated and a bit tragic for themselves and others.
