“Bill Nye really doesn’t understand science.”
Such a claim would be laughable coming from anyone. But it’s a full-on mind-shattering BSOD of irony when you realize this statement came from Ken Ham of the infamous Creation Museum:
Perhaps the most ridiculous moment comes at 3 minutes in, when Ham claims:
He doesn’t teach children how to think critically. He doesn’t teach them how to think about science. He wants to teach them what to think.
This is, of course, coming from the founder of Answers in Genesis, an organization with a statement of faith that says:
The 66 books of the Bible are the written Word of God. The Bible is divinely inspired and inerrant throughout. Its assertions are factually true in all the original autographs. It is the supreme authority in everything it teaches. Its authority is not limited to spiritual, religious, or redemptive themes but includes its assertions in such fields as history and science.

Those who do not believe in Christ are subject to everlasting conscious punishment, but believers enjoy eternal life with God.
It is the duty of Christians to attend a local Bible believing church, as portrayed in the New Testament.
Scripture teaches a recent origin for man and the whole creation, spanning approximately 4,000 years from creation to Christ.
The days in Genesis do not correspond to geologic ages, but are six [6] consecutive twenty-four [24] hour days of creation.
By definition, no apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field, including history and chronology, can be valid if it contradicts the scriptural record. Of primary importance is the fact that evidence is always subject to interpretation by fallible people who do not possess all information.
That’s Answers in Genesis for you. Clearly they never teach children what to think. They teach them to think critically – until they hit Bible.
Has this guy watched all 100 episodes of Bill Nye the Science Guy? Because I have. Bring it, Ken.
I tell you, The Nerd, I’ve seen TWO episodes of it, and _I_ know that Bill Nye knows more science than Ken Ham.

As a software developer who appreciates the power of evolutionary algorithms… quite a bit. If I was a hiring manager at Google, I wouldn’t be hiring computer science graduates from Liberty University or Bob Jones University or wherever.
As for Ken Ham’s statement about not wanting to fly a plane designed by ‘evolution’. Yeah, well evolutionary algorithms are being used in aerospace engineering. If you want to design something to be more aerodynamic, chance and replication are actually pretty good ways of doing it. Google for evolutionary algorithms aerospace and you’ll find a whole stack of papers on how they are basically starting to be extremely important in aerospace engineering. Evolutionary algorithms are already being used in electronic engineering too. Complex optimization problems are something that evolution handles pretty well in nature, and it’s not like any branch of engineering is short of complex optimization problems.
It isn’t Ken Hamm that tells people what to believe. He just teaches kids how to critically think about anything that isn’t the Bible. It’s God who teaches people what to believe.
The Bible is completely inerrant. Pi is 3! There was a wordlwide flood that wiped out all civilization (except those that were so ignorant as to not realize they were drowning under hundreds of feet of water, and went on about their day leaving evidence and documents and stuff). Bats are birds (or bugs, if you’re a Calvinist)!
It’s not Hamm’s fault all those scientists don’t understand the real definition of science.

I am almost starting to believe that Ham almost believes this shit himself. Almost.
He’s just parroting the perfectly true and applicable criticism he’s gotten over the years back at his critics in an attempt to disarm them. It’s the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” school of argumentation.
Simple catchy soundbites that are easy to remember and repeat, they don’t believe in evolution but are happy to exploit one of Dawkins ideas, memes. Doesn’t really matter if it is easily refuted, enough people repeating it will give it a sheen of truth for those that want to see it.

“Christians aren’t afraid to teach evolution” Of course they only teach their version of evolution which is missing many facts and processes(essentially a strawman) so they can refute it in favor of their religion. Who’s indoctrinating now?
Special? Well I think we all are special and lucky to be able to experience such things as life and to be able to understand how the world works. At the same time the facts can be cold and hard and void of special meaning. My children are special, but mainly to me and I don’t expect anybody else to feel that way about my children because they aren’t their children. This guy really doesn’t understand life and reality.
Bones & Radiation? Well at least he acknowledges that bones, or fossils, of dinosaurs actually exist. And it’s good that he does the same with radiation and our ability to use it. I guess he just can’t put the two together to acknowledge radiometric dating. Everything gives off a certain amount of radiation which is basically a decay of the elements the object is made of. If we know the rate at which certain elements decay and at what age they start to decay then we can determine through testing what the approx. age of an object is. That is why we know that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago instead of thousands. We can also verify this with strata in geology. But I would imagine that most of you on here that would read this blog would at least have some knowledge of it, probably more than me. 😀
Likes, dislikes and comments are all disabled on this video. Hunh, imagine that: a creationist disabling comments. Is Ken Ham scared of critical thinking being used on his video?
I saw that when I went you youtube a few days ago to test a speaker. I clicked on the video and immediately thumbsdowned it and got the “stuff is disabled” thing. I think instead of disabling, an uploader should only be able to hide them from themselves. They still wouldn’t have to see reality (and people we like wouldn’t have to see threats and abuse), but the rest of the world could if they wanted, and we could see the millions of dislikes on this video, and upvoted posts with refutations of every point he tries to make.
As much as I agree that disabling feedback was a sign of cowardice, I appreciate the ability to disable feedback on YouTube. There are situations in which it isn’t necessary to determine how popular a video is. For example, if I were sharing a video of my (hypothetical) wedding or birthday party, maybe I just want to have it posted online to show my friends and family – I don’t feel any moral obligation to let people leave negative feedback, as though I owe the world an opportunity to bully me. But back to Ken Ham: the fact that he would disable comments is not only a sign of cowardice, it’s hilarious.
Isn’t the piglet’s definition of critical thinking “choose to believe exactly what I say without deviation or I hit you with the big stick”?
