Every Time I Think I Might Want to Do Videos…

…Steve Shives just reminded me why I go “nah”.

It’s a goddamn shame, really. We need more positive examples of atheism, especially with the intersection of social justice and humanism, in every social media medium that exists.  How else are we going to grow and expand as a movement?

The video makes good points, but I have another. Videos just don’t convey a point of view as well as text.

With text, I read at my speed, I can re-read a passage, I can move on when I get your meaning. With video, I get your words at your speed, and hearing a sentence twice is cumbersome. I get your accent, your pauses, your head-bobs, etc.

With text, what I get are the exactly the words you’ve chosen to express yourself appearing directly in my head. With text, it’s just you and me and your ideas. I like text.
