A funny thing happened yesterday. I started seeing hits from Reddit. A *lot* of hits. Fully a fifth of my traffic came from a particular thread on Reddit — despite my being in a slow blogging period, posting my one post I managed very late in the day, and despite the long tail on my bigger posts already waning.
(In other words, by “a lot” of hits, I mean ~400. About what I’ll get from posting a video of a turtle doing something cute.)
So I clicked through to see what I was linked from, Turns out, it was r/MensRights, and they were opining that I’m a terrible human being, a beta mangina, and a sop for the Gynocracy because of this post.

Okay, if you haven’t already seen this video that’s been floating about recently, you probably should. I see this absurdism, and reductio ad absurdum of the entire Men’s Rights Movement, as a defense mechanism against the completely counter-intuitive pushback against feminism. I mean, how else do you deal with ideas that are so patently absurd as that women are somehow oppressing men by trying to get the same rights as them?
But I’m A Nice Guy from Scott Benson on Vimeo.
I didn’t get to join in on this Troma film last Wednesday, sadly. However, it seems like the participants were actually pretty content with the movie as-is, as the mocking was pretty thin.
Which I simply can’t get my head around, given that it’s a Troma movie about condoms that murder people.
Seriously.
CA7746 provides the subtitle file, which I’ll likely use later tonight to watch it myself. He’s also still digging through our archives and has done a subtitle file for Maniac in white-text only, and in color. I’m going to put together a Mock The Movie page as soon as I scrape together the time to do so, to hold links to all our previous mockings and transcripts.
Here’s our calendar of upcoming events. You can also subscribe to the iCal file.
My wife works at a vineyard owned by Jöst (pronounced Yost, to rhyme with “most”). We’ve had a few bottles of this — it’s not horrible. So, apparently, has Jay Leno.
Such feminist misandry — making wine out of foreskins! Those castrating Canucks! Someone call the Canadian consulate and have them issue a warning about roving bands of feminists taking over our country!
What’s that, dear? They “ferment four varieties of grapes in the skins”? Well, okay, slightly clever. Gimmicky but clever.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who had already won many of our hearts by being the first publicly atheist leader of a major English-speaking nation, really proved her mettle among those on our side of the Great Rift last week-ish when she delivered this speech in Parliament, seizing on Opposition leader Tony Abbott’s hypocritical attempts to paint HER as a misogynist.
(old link, which is region-locked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfo3SGIiSE0 )
But then, because she’s a damned important public figure using the word “misogyny” the way it is commonly understood by feminists for at least thirty years, e.g. to mean “conscious or unconscious systematic biases or bigotries against women” rather than “tooth-gnashing caricatures of Yosemite Sam screaming ‘Ah hate those wimminz!'”, the public discussion has had an interesting side-effect. Since this discussion largely centred around the meaning of the word, and since the antifeminist quarters’ main defense against the charge is dumbfounded astonishment that anyone would ever mistake them for someone with a “hatred” of women, this has led to something practically unheard-of in recent times: a dictionary stepping in to settle the argument.
In our favour.
Pardon me if I crow a bit.

Don’t have much for the blog for today, but I thought I’d point you to an exercise in creating a point-by-point guide on how to be a misandrist over at More ^than Men. It’s pretty much a walkthrough for how to build the gynocracy.
MRAs, anti-feminists, and general dudebros are fond of responding to feminists and just-not-horrible people (especially women) by whining making strongly worded claims of misandry. Inspired by the amazing How To Be A Reverse-Racist: An Actual Step by Step List For Oppressing White People by A. D. Song and Mia McKenzie I’ve created this handy guide to using the inherently unfair (to men) system to create a gynocratic fempire that I would like to call Misandria.
I’ll try to write something tonight or tomorrow about the “no touching without consent” aspects of the harassment policies, pointing to some comments that I’d gotten on my post about how these harassment policies really don’t limit talking about religion. (In short, yes, we’re totally trying to be killjoys by suggesting that maybe you should know if someone consents to you chewing on their leg or what-have-you.)
Via Think Progress:
This week, the Department of Justice published new standards addressing the epidemic of rape and sexual abuse in our nation’s prisons. The guidelines, which apply immediately to federal prisons and give financial incentives for states to comply, are a laudable, widely praised, and long overdue step in combating rape in the United States.
Wanted to throw this on the blog for a few days now, but it’s been… busy. Over at Google+, it seems the only people who engage with my linking back to various websites are the MRAs and antifeminists who probably make up the majority of the early-adopters of the technology.
I had posted a link to Chris Clarke’s thoughts on the latest skeptical sexism imbroglio, and the only answers I got were from one guy who was entirely disinterested in engaging with the points I attempted to make in a pithy, I-don’t-have-time-for-fisking-this kind of way.
Seriously, it’s a hell of a gish gallop. You should see it.

In the wake of the blatantly misogynistic attack Feminist Frequency has endured over the Tropes vs Women In Video Games video kickstarter, wherein trolls claimed that video games showed significant levels of misandry as well, Twitter launched a counter-offensive. The #misandryinvideogames hashtag has Twitter users describing all the instances of misandry they could find in video games. Some absolutely hilarious stuff in there, like:
#MisandryInVideoGames in tetris a lot of the blocks you destroy look like weiners and balls
#MisandryInVideoGames Waluigi creates an unrealistic standard of beauty for men
#misandryinvideogames Zelda keeps friend zoning me
Why you always gotta save a princess? Why never a prince?
#MisandryInVideoGames
GTA’s protagonist is always a man with criminal tendencies
#MisandryInVideoGames
Smoketypething
@Smoketypething
#MisandryInVideogames Sometimes women neither Tits nor GTFO, even when I ask nicely.
Also: “Mega” Man? Any man who’s stocky is “Mega” now? Stop promoting bulimia in pre-teen boys, Capcom.
#MisandryInVideoGames
AND BY HILARIOUS I MEAN HORRIBLE. HOW HORRIBLE IT MUST BE TO BE A MAN AND PLAY VIDEO GAMES AND SEE ALL THIS MISANDRY.
zomg.
