#Kony: It’s Complicated

We’ve all seen Invisible Children’s “Make Him Famous” campaign, attempting to bring war criminal Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, to justice. If you somehow missed it, here’s the video again.

However, the situation is far more complicated than the video makes it appear, and I can’t help but feel that for everything this video does that’s right, there’s two more things wrong.

The twenty comments in my moderation queue

I want to clear out the twenty comments I have pending moderation — the only twenty comments to hit moderation since I joined Freethought Blogs. These comments came from people who have earned “bans” (which, around here, means they can post but only I see it) for various reasons, and in one major case, from someone who wanted to keep arguing long after he was blocked for threadjacking, thread hogging, mistreating me and basically every commenter, and being a general douchenozzle. I post these not to legitimize anything anyone’s said, but because I actually care a significant amount more about free speech than some of these aforementioned douchenozzles seem to believe. I don’t particularly like any of the lines of argumentation proffered by the people in question, but I don’t, also, want to simply black-hole them because that just ain’t my style.

So, I’m going to post these comments here. Think of this more as my having stopped people from shitting on the rug, forcing them to shit in the chamber pot, where I’ll now dump out the contents for any interested parties to see. If you dislike anti-feminist sentiment, misogyny, specious argumentation, or DavidByron, I strongly recommend you skip this post. If you’re just looking for whargarbl, there’s plenty to be had here.

Goes without saying — expect the possibility of triggering language from misogynist fuckwits. Funny that it’s only them who landed there.

News flash: Rush keeps being Rush

As though this is any surprise. Despite his not-pology, despite his declaring that when he called Sandra Fluke a slut he was “being like the left”, he’s still on the attack — any woman who dares speak up about contraception is fair game to this man.

I seriously have no idea what it’ll take to finish this ass off once and for all.

The Rush Limbaugh implosion continues apace

Looks like Rush is getting his just desserts. Forty-plus advertisers have pulled their ads from Rush Limbaugh’s show, and the show itself has been pulled outright from two radio affiliates. At least two prominent musicians have told him not to use their music on his show ever again.

And somehow, it all continues to snowball.

There are no dragons in space

I’ve got about a dozen maddening things I want to write about, almost no time in which to do any of it, and a fairly full day ahead of me today (as with yesterday). So, here. Something awesome instead. Valve (yes, Valve!) created an official Skyrim mod, available on Steam for the PC version. Wonder what happened to the Space Core after being sucked out into space at the end of Portal 2? Well, he’s apparently shielded enough to survive reentry… on another planet.

Says a bunch of unique stuff like “Archery? Hmm. Smithing? Hmm. Don’t need ’em. Go to space. Only skill you need.” Also, you can apparently use the Atronach Forge to build a unique helmet, and you can return him to space with the help of a giant.

Yes, seriously.

There are no dragons in space

Bill Maher is a fucking idiot.

I’ve said it a few times before. The guy got a scant few questions right — the question of whether or not there’s a God, and whether or not global warming is real. Otherwise, he’s a misogynist scumbag lackwit who thinks the germ theory of disease is a sham and vaccines are some kind of elitist liberal plot or something.

And now he goes and says this on Twitter.

Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout

How easy it must be to be Be

Natalie Reed is a transgender activist and an atheist, and possibly more importantly, a fantastic writer. She wrote an insightful post (like she does) regarding a meme spreading amongst the transgender community that “God loves trans people”, wherein she vehemently disagreed with the statement, because there is no evidence for the existence of this corporeal entity that people claim loves them. She also lays out the fact that religion, historically, has been aggressively anti-gay and anti-trans and, well, extraordinarily xenophobic with regard to anything and anyone that does not fit into the “traditional” (e.g., “DEFINED BY GOD!”) gender roles. These facts are well in evidence around these parts, so I won’t rehash them.

Be Scofield is a Divinity School pantheist and a pro-theism activist, and probably more importantly, terrible at both reading for comprehension (as Chris Hallquist covers), and at writing persuasively. He rebutted Natalie in a most repetitive and anti-Gnu-Atheism manner that she is wrong because she believes supporting religious delusion also supports the more extremist of the religiously deluded. Maybe not in exactly those words, but that’s the gist of his argument, which, while he demands sociological evidence for Natalie’s assertions, he supports his own via argumentum ad nauseum. He also makes several assumptions about Natalie’s line of thinking, about her method of argumentation, her reasons for making the arguments she does, and about her general psychology.

This, by the by, is the same person who, not long ago, accused Greta Christina of racist imperialism by pullquoting Sikivu Hutchinson, one of the biggest contributors to Black Skeptics.

I’m Elmo And I Know It

Something that recently had me LMFAO — at least, closer to actually laughing my ass off than the original.

Though Mr. Noodle is very slightly less awesome a cameo than Ron Jeremy, at least this video pulls it out at the very end with the Jamie Foxx weird-smile moment from Nutcracker Mash.

Wait. Wait. I just watched it again and realized it had a misplaced apostrophe in the captions! Gah! Arglebargle! This can’not STAND!!!!

Karen Handel: Komen defunding Planned Parenthood was a premeditated attack

… by Planned Parenthood.

That’s right, we’re now in full-on Bizarro World. Also, something something shakedown. Blah blah.

Does this strike anyone else as projection? I mean seriously, what exactly did Planned Parenthood do to “premeditatively attack” Komen? This is like saying Greedo shot first!
