Death to the man behind Facebook!

Pakistan’s attorney general is investigating Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, for his part in allowing the user-driven Draw Muhammad day. Of course, under Pakistan’s penal code, for facilitating a derogatory remark about Muhammad, Zuckerberg ain’t going to get poked with the soft pillow.

Last month, according to English-language Pakistani newspaper The News International, a Pakistani High Court judge summoned the police after lawyer Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed an application for a First Information Report (FIR), claiming that the owners of Facebook had committed a heinous and serious crime under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. In essence, an FIR launches a criminal investigation. But no charges have been filed.

According to the paper, Section 295-C of the penal code reads: “Use of derogatory remark etc, in respect of the Holy Prophet, whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable for fine.”

So, peace be unto Muhammad. But not unto Mark Zuckerberg.

And I bet you thought this was going to be a rant about Facebook’s privacy concerns. No, no. There’s far bigger retardery afoot whenever you get Muslims that believe in the Hadith as canon and put them in positions to make batshit insane laws. Granted, after Pakistan blocked Facebook and Youtube over the ZOMG BLASPHEMY, Facebook had the Draw Muhammad Day pages removed. But they STILL want to kill Zuckerberg.

This is why you don’t want to be tried under Sharia Law. Congratulations to Pakistan’s government and legal system on planting a flag on your stake as biggest bunch of pitiful losers to ever run a country.

And remember, these nice, intelligent people have nuclear weapons.

Islam: The religion that behaves as if it had all the insecurity of a short bald man with a tiny penis.

I think the whole idea of it stinks, but on the other hand, sometimes I wonder what it takes to wake people up to the damage to free expression that’s being done. A high profile story like this might wake a few people up. Not a situation I like to think we’re in, but maybe some of the extreme cultural relativists will start to see religion and law shouldn’t go together.

Raytheist: The reach of Pakistani Law extends only to the borders of Pakistan.

Does the reach of US law extend only to the borders of America? I don’t see why the Pakistani government, if it had the military strength or international reach of a type of “secret police” like the American government does, couldn’t have a number of agents “disappear” Mark Zuckerberg to a black prison site.

There are some thoughts that make me shudder, even as I sit in my very safe, comfortable home over here in Canada.

Sorry Mike, I’ll point out the backwater religious fundamentalists that run the country that’s probably harboring bin Laden a little quieter in the future.

sinned34’s take is exactly what I was thinking when I saw this article. It doesn’t matter that the US will probably never extradite a CEO of a large company over a perceived slight in having not deleted a Facebook page quickly enough, knowing that said extradition would result in his death. What DOES matter, is that either black-ops agents or religious fundies on our side of the pond may well do something slightly extra-legal.

Mind you, a public figure like Zuckerberg being disappeared would almost certainly constitute an act of war. But Obama’s going to have to extract your troops from Iraq and Afghanistan before you can handle a war with a justified enemy like your allies in Pakistan.

True. But have you ever heard of government agents and/or terrorists?

Not to mention that Bill Kristol is again claiming that the US should take on Iran, like, NOW! Of course, like Ed Brayton said, Kristol has been wrong on so much, how could anybody take his opinion on anything seriously?
