Yeah, I, uh… pretty much don’t remember The Legend of Zelda going anything at all like this. Did the Japanese version of the game come with acid printed on the instruction manual or something?
Dance, Link, Dance!

You have to remember that Legend of Zelda was coming out in 1986, about the time that Michael Jackson’s Thriller was popular in Japan, so it’s hardly surprising they’d make a big theatrical dance number. I seem to remember this kind of thing happening a lot around the time in lots of Japanese commercials. Luckily, by the time it hit the U.S., we were largely done with the dancing nonsense.
This is the SNES Zelda: A Link to the Past, actually. Released in 1991 in Japan. Still, point taken.
to be quite fair though.. our american 1991 was their american 1986.. : )
The videogame commercials that air in Japan seem to be a bit more creative than what we get here (though I admit to not watching regular TV for years).
For further perusal, I leave you with this link to a Japanese commercial for Resistance 2 (an awesome game, by the way).
I showed this video to my ten year old son (a huge Legend of Zelda fan)and he laughed for hours.
