What I’ve been up to lately

Work.

That is all.

Okay, not JUST work I guess. I’ve also had a sinus infection, and I’m about to take the penultimate antibiotic (hooray!).

I did an overnight last night, and my sleep schedule is all messed up, so I’m making a horribly late, horribly heavy snack that I’m sure to regret once I go to bed shortly after eating it. However, as it’s Jodi’s birthday tomorrow, it would be a really bad idea for me to be grumpy in any way, shape or form. Remind me while I’m running around frantically trying to deal with the garbage and recycling, would you kindly?

Also managed to finish up Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which Jodi bought for me two Christmases ago. I had stopped about halfway through. No clue why, since I love the Metroid games so much — I think I got distracted with another game and just never picked it back up. Then I went and got Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii, as I’d never played Prime 2: Echoes and hadn’t even completed the original. So, that’s been eating up a lot of my free time — that is, what little free time I’ve had over the past few weeks. It seems when I get under a lot of pressure at work, the first thing that’s going to suffer is my blogging. Which is odd, where I consider blogging so cathartic. I seem to trend toward playing video games instead, though — especially when I’m under more stress. I guess I’m just not reading as much of the blogosphere and not getting worked up about any particular topic, and I can’t often bring myself to write about banal stuff like “what’s going on in my life.” Present post excepted, I guess.

Jodi and I went to see Alice in Wonderland 3D on Saturday, after she discovered we had $30 in movie theatre gift cards in her purse. The 3D effect was not as good as Avatar’s, but the movie had a decent plot at least — served as a proper sequel to the original Disney Alice, though it was quite a bit more adult of one than I thought it would be. Anyway, I’ll give up some of Avatar’s polish in trade for a real plot. And the preview for Tron Legacy (in 3D!) was almost worth the price of admission itself! I cannot wait to see it.

Some less cool news: My dad got into a car accident last week. He’s okay, not to worry. My step-mom’s car was totalled though. Was hit by a drunk driver, and although this puts the blame squarely on the other guy, there are other implications about the accident that I’m working through quietly. I’ve already talked them out with my wife, my sister, my step-sister, and one internet friend whose advice always seems to be so insightful as to give me pause, so I’m pretty much at an uneasy peace with the situation. But that’s about all I’ll say about it, as my issues are not anything I’d particularly like to share on this venue.

It looks like I’ll be driving to the other end of the province Thursday night, to visit one of work’s sites I’ve never been to — and attempt to pull off a domain migration there in just one night. Thankfully, it won’t be as huge an endeavour as the other two I was involved in over the past few weeks as there are very few Windows computers there (it’s a Mac site, you see), and my boss has just put into place a new IT resource putting a “tier-one” in between me and the ravenous hordes to handle any password resets or other such nonsense that only served to bog me down. Aside from the drive, and having to crash at a hotel in the morning, it won’t be so bad. Once the domain migration projects are all squared away (only this site, and another where I’ll only be directing the action remotely!), I’m going to see a drastic decline in the number of overnight jobs I’ll be doing. And it couldn’t come soon enough.

Even though I slept half the afternoon, I should probably get to bed. I have to get up early tomorrow so I don’t make Jodi late for work. And if I don’t get enough sleep, I’ll be cranky, and either case would be detrimental to her “happy birthday” vibes.

Hope the sinuses are better. I’m finishing up one round of antibiotics and about to start a second of a slightly different variety. Fasting lab work on Thursday morning, and we’ll go from there. Restful sleep is something we can only wish for when we’re ill.

The domain migration at the mac-oriented site sounds like it will go smoothly (they never do though, right?). Let’s hope it will be as easy as it should be.
