"Coming Out Atheist" Resource Guide – Crowdsourcing

So I’m putting together the resource guide for Coming Out Atheist: How To Do It, How To Help Each Other, And Why, and I could use your help.

Here’s the Resource Guide as it is in the current draft of the book. It’s a list of atheist/ humanist/ godless organizations, communities, support groups; online forums support networks and other online resources; blogs, videoblogs, and podcasts; and books. It’s largely pulled from the Resource Guide of Why Are You Atheists So Angry? 99 Things That Piss Off the Godless? I’m updating it for the new book, and I’d like to know:

a) Is there anything missing from this list? (In particular, I want to make sure I have international resources, and resources for atheists from other marginalized groups.) I don’t need to include every atheist book every published or every local atheist group in the world, but a lot of stuff has been happening in atheism since Why Are You Atheists So Angry? 99 Things That Piss Off the Godless?, and I’d like it to be reasonably thorough and up-to-date.

b) Is there anything on this list that shouldn’t be here? Organizations that have shut down, etc.

c) Is there anything on this list that needs to be changed? Updated URLs, etc.

Please post your suggestions in the comments here, or, if for some reason you don’t want to make them publicly, email them to me at gcgreta (at) doubtfulpalace (dot) com. And please don’t feel shy about self-promotion: if you think your organization/ book/ blog should be in this book’s Resource Guide, please let me know. I don’t promise to include all the suggestions made here, but I do promise to take them all seriously. Thanks!

Dear Greta (initially mispelled it as Great) Christina,

    1. Choice In Dying has been shut down a few weeks ago.
    2. For Germany, there’s the Central Council of Ex-Muslims and the Giordana Bruno Foundation.
    3. A text probably more for your own delectation, if you don’t already know it, than for your book list: The “Dialogue between a priest and a dying man” by the Marquis de Sade. New Atheism isn’t really that new.

    Good luck with the book!

Love, Joy, Feminism moved over to Patheos.
    Kylie Sturgess moved too.
Does Edwin Kagin still blog? The link you have works, but he isn’t listed on the sidebar any more?

Regarding “Why Evolution is True” the website run by Jerry Coyne… It is a bit of a peccadillo to refer to his site as a “blog”. The locals all know it isn’t a blog, it is a website.

In Australia, we have the Atheist Foundation of Australia, the Australian Skeptics and the Council of Australian Humanist Societies. For university (and possibly high school) students, there is the Freethought Student Alliance, which is similar to the Secular Student Alliance but for Australia. They can help you find an atheist/humanist/skeptic club (or start one) at your university or school.

Meetup.com is an easy way to find local atheist/humanist/skeptic groups anywhere in the world. Also many cities now have a Sunday Assembly, which may appeal to some new atheists.
