Greta Speaking at Colorado State University, Friday Jan. 27

Hi, all! If you’re in Colorado in or near Colorado State University at Fort Collins, come hear me speak! I’ll be speaking on the topic of “Atheism and Sexuality” this Friday, Jan. 27. The event is free and open to the public. It’s being sponsored by CSU LIFT, Leaders in Free Thought — and the local Planned Parenthood generously provided condoms to help promote the event, so that’s neat. I’ll be speaking and then taking questions — so come prepared to grill me, or just to say howdy!

EVENT/HOSTS: Colorado State University Leaders in Free Thought (CSU LIFT)
DATE: Friday, Jan. 27
TIME: 4:00 pm
LOCATION: Lory Student Center, West Ballroom, CSU campus
TOPIC: Atheism and sexuality
SUMMARY: The sexual morality of traditional religion tends to be based, not on solid ethical principles, but on a set of taboos about what kinds of sex God does and doesn’t want people to have. And while the sex-positive community offers a more thoughtful view of sexual morality, it still often frames sexuality as positive by seeing it as a spiritual experience. What are some atheist alternatives to these views? How can atheists view sexual ethics without a belief in God? And how can atheists view sexual transcendence without a belief in the supernatural?
COST: Free, and open to the public

Hope to see you there!

    Holy crap! That’s my hometown!

4pm, hmmm might be difficult to leave early, but I’m going to do my best.

As a side note, we have excellent food here, if you don’t have anyone taking you out for dinner, I can recommend some great places.

What kind of food do you like?

An atheist convention I don’t have to drive cross country for? Be still my beating heart! It will be a pleasure to hear you speak, Greta.

If anyone from Denver reads this, I’ll be driving from the Springs to get to Fort Collins. How bad is traffic on the I-25 at about 1:00 Pm on a Friday – would it be smarter to take the E-470 and avoid downtown traffic, or just drive straight through Denver?

So psyched to hear about this! I wish there was more notice, but I’m going to figure out how to get up to Ft. Collins. Greta, any chance you might want to get with some members of the Denver Atheists? I could put something together on meetup. I’ve been a fan of your blog for a while now and am excited to get a chance to hear you speak.

The only atheists I know are more hateful and miserable than the worst member of the Westboro Baptist church. On top of that, they delight in mocking my Christian beliefs and values. I hope you’re not like that. I read some of your blog, and it didn’t do much to make me think otherwise. I hope your message is not one of hate for those that think you are wrong, but that’s kind of all I’m seeing.

That’s all you are seeing? Really? I just looked at the homepage and there is only one post related to atheism. You don’t see the pledge drive? Or the one welcoming new bloggers? Or -any- of the others?

Maybe you are only seeing what you are looking for.
