Saturday Song: Dunno the Words, But Love the Tune

We’re moving our singsongs to Saturdays, as I’ve got other things planned for the next several Sundays. You’ll love it, I hope.

This week’s theme is Songs We Don’t Understand the Words To, but Love Anyway. I’ve got so many of these. This is one of my particular favorites, but the only thing I’ve translated so far is the title:

Everything is Art, indeed! And sometimes, not knowing what’s being said is the most artistic thing of all. Still. I shoulda taken more Spanish.

What about you, my darlings? Give me a song (JUST ONE SONG THIS TIME ZOMG PEOPLE THERE WILL BE PLENTY MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SHARING THEM ALL) that you don’t know the words to, but you really enjoy.

Image shows a brownish-gray kitty standing on its hind legs, one forepaw raised, and its mouth wide open. Caption says, "Oh solo me-ow!"

Y’all know I love Eartha Kitt. I’ve been listening to this song most of my life and can sing along phonetically. I found this live version where she translates a little bit, and it’s funny. Enjoy.

Well it’s not Saturday any more where I am, but this one always gets my feet moving. I managed to mostly translate it one time, but I only remember the basic feeling of it, which, well, the music covers that pretty completely.

Ouch. Sorry, So many good songs .. Hard to choose. I was going to go with the semi-obvious one of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and there’s a section of U2’s Miss Sarajevo song sung by Luciano Pavarotti in Italian (which I don’t speak) that is one of my faves too but in the end I’m going to go with San Guo as featured here :

in this powerful bittersweet scene from the historical coming of age movie ‘Empire of the Sun’ – and now I’ve just found out that this song which I always thought was Chinese is actually Welsh.

This one’s a bit of a cheat, since a few years ago I found someone to translate the lyrics for me, but I figure it counts since I’ve since forgotten the vast majority: Carry Me, River.
And only because Pobre mi madre querida seemed a bit much for tonight.

I can only think of one song that qualifies for the like, but don’t understand catagory. Peter Fox, Alles Neu:

As a bonus, it features the Cold Steel Drumline, who are feckin’ awesome.

I admit, I cheated and looked up the translation. Turns out its mostly about how awesome he is, and its not very inspired lyrically. But I just love the way the Deutsch rolls off his tongue.
