Interlude with Cat Eating Bacon Jerky

You knew bacon jerky was inevitable, right? Here is Misha enjoying some with me while we read our newest creationist textbook.

Image shows Misha sniffing a bit of bacon jerky I'm holding out for her.
Misha getting her jerky on. It’s BACON!

Turns out she adores the stuff, so I’ll have to get more. Look, 20 year-old kittehs get what they want. Well, aside from my attention when I’m sleeping, no matter how loud she yowls directly in my ear. Damn cat. I think it’s because I haven’t been filling her porch kibble bowl due to rainy weather. She thinks food on the porch is far tastier than food inside. I’m sure there’s a scientific reason for it.

In case you’re dying of anticipation: yes, A Beka’s newest earth “science” text is as whacked as SPC. Only difference is that it’s got more room to expand on ridiculous ideas, and they’ve corrected a few of the glaringly-wrong facts that made SPC’s geology chapter snigger-worthy. You’ll see what I mean shortly.

Now off to continue grinding through ES4. And possibly feed the cat moar bacon.

Food outside is always tastier. As evidenced by every single outdoor/garden party/barbecue I’ve ever been to. It’s fact, and Misha knows it. *paws*

Our kitties have never been outdoors except in their carriers so they don’t know what outdoor food tastes like. It’s safer that way. I assume Misha is confined to the porch.

I lost Mike a couple of weeks ago. I watched him become a skeleton, and when I couldn’t stand it any more I took him to the vet. I probably should have done it sooner. He was 13, which is a pretty good age for a male cat. Until the last week of his life he seemed pretty okay with life, even though the huge amounts of food I gave him did not keep the weight from falling off. Some type of liver disease.

    I miss him.

    otrame:
I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty.
I’m worried one of mine might have a similar problem. When I first got my tabby, Kayta, she was a kitten. I overfed her (those were the days before I paid attention to the feeding guidelines on pet food). I’ve noticed in the last 6 months that she had gotten smaller, but it wasn’t until I was fired back in May that I really noticed how much weight she lost (I’ve been home almost all day, everyday since May 25, so I’ve been around her frequently in that time). Her belly used to drag the floor when she walked. I’ve had her since 2000, so she’s at least 14 years old (she was a stray that I found-and kept- during the winter weather in North Alabama-not the nicest weather to leave any animal). She’s lost a lot of weight. When I weighed her a few weeks back, she was 10 lbs. That means she’s lost roughly 8 lbs. I can feel some of her bones. I’ve checked to make sure my other cat isn’t stealing her food, so that’s out. She always seems like she’s hungry, and I fear she may not be keeping food down.
I recently got hired at a new restaurant, but it doesn’t open until next month, so I still don’t have money. One of the first things I want to do is take her to the vet.
I’ve already had one cat with kidney problems that I put down (I miss you Kara), and I really don’t want to to go through that again.

Tony, would it help if we ran a fundraiser? I’d be happy to do that for you and your kitty. I’ve been in the position of not having money and having a sick kitty, it sucks.

Yep! She’s on a 3rd floor balcony with excellent railing and no desire to tempt fate. Perfectly safe. And the birds have now figured out she’s too old and slow to jump up on anything to try to get them, so we occasionally get buzzed by hummingbirds and juncos. They just hover and LOL, then zip off.

I’m always too busy being paranoid about various outdoor things getting in my food and worrying about napkins blowing away to properly taste it. I fail at outdoor eating. Yet another reason I do not camp!
