It didn’t seem appropriate to bash ordinary stupidity in the face of rampaging gunmen, but there was plenty of the garden-variety inanity we’ve come to expect from Cons. There’s a point where you go from stubborn to stupid, and the Cons sailed past that line a long time ago. Their obstructionism has now reached the point of disgusting dumbfuckery:

Tammy Duckworth, who lost both of her legs in combat while serving in Iraq, is the head of veterans affairs for the state of Illinois, and President Obama’s nominee for assistant secretary of veterans affairs. Duckworth had a nominating hearing on Wednesday, a vote was scheduled for Thursday, and a swearing-in event for Friday.

All of that has been pushed off, however, because the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs wants to feel important.

Republican Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina is delaying the nomination vote and swearing-in of injured Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth for a top post in the Veterans Affairs administration.

His actions angered some veterans groups Friday.

“Senator Burr has had plenty of time to ask questions of her,” Jon Soltz, the chairman of VoteVets.org, an organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, said in a statement. “Senator Burr is only hurting American veterans with this nonsense. He should stop playing petty partisan games, stop needling the White House for the sheer fun of it and grow up.”

Burr still has questions about Duckworth’s nomination, his office said.

What kind of questions? Burr’s office wouldn’t say.

You know what, I have a question for Senator Burr. Does it make you happy to be such an outrageous, fatuous fucktard? Does it feel good to fuck with a woman who gave her legs for her country?

You can bet he doesn’t even have questions about her. He just wants to hold her up for no better reason than she’s Obama’s nominee.

Department of Defense: Sens. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) announced today that “they are blocking President Barack Obama’s nomination of Ashton Carter as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.” The senators want assurances that Carter will not “change the criteria” on which the Pentagon considers a refueling tanker contract that could benefit defense contractors in their state.

Department of Veterans Affairs: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) asked the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to delay voting on the “nomination of Tammy Duckworth, an injured Iraq war helicopter pilot, to be an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, Burr’s Press Secretary, David Ward said that Burr is waiting for the answers to several questions he’s put to the White House and Duckworth, but would not disclose what those questions were.

White House Office of Legal Council: Dawn Johnsen’s nomination as head of the OLC has been delayed in part because Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has ideological differences with her. As the Legal Times explained, “citing Johnsen’s criticisms of Bush national security policies, [Cornyn] accused her of lacking ‘the seriousness and necessary resolve’ to fight terrorism,” while “other Republicans have targeted her work as legal director for NARAL Pro-Choice America from 1988 to 1993.”

Department of State: Right wing commentators are working to block the appointment of Harold Koh to the State Deptment’s top legal adviser, smearing him as a “threat to democracy” for his being an international law expert. As the Century Foundation notes, “The fervent opponents of Harold Koh turn out to be enthusiastic defenders of John Yoo.”

Additionally, Chris Hill’s nomination as ambassador to Iraq is still being held up by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) at the behest of the right wing.

And as if all this weren’t enough, here we have another fucktard working himself into a froth over absolutely nothing save what exists in his own paranoid delusions:

It’s one thing to criticize specific members of the Obama administration because of ideology or policy differences. It’s another to criticize would-be administration officials who haven’t even been identified yet because of religious differences.

Yesterday, Gary Bauer, a religious right leader and former Republican presidential candidate, wrote a column criticizing the mere possibility that the White House might hire aides who are Muslim. (via RWW).

During the presidential campaign, one of the stickiest rumors surrounding Barack Obama was that if he was elected, America could look forward to having a Muslim in the White House. Now that Obama is president, that rumor may prove correct.

President Obama says he’s a Christian, but that doesn’t mean he won’t appoint Muslims to key positions in his administration in return for Muslim support during the election. Muslim groups are fretting that none have been appointed yet, and they want that to change. Polls showed about nine in 10 American Muslims voted for Obama last fall, and they want something to show for it. Don’t be surprised if Obama gives them what they want.

Now, Bauer isn’t complaining about specific Muslim officials in the administration. In fact, he didn’t even say if there are any Muslim officials in the administration. He’s all worked up, though, because the program coordinator for the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association bundled some resumes f
or White House consideration.

Bauer went on to argue that this is part of a preferred quota system — which exists solely in Bauer’s active imagination — and that the left should be complaining about the separation of mosque and state.

Now, Mr. Bauer, the reason the left isn’t complaining about that is because there’s not one fucking thing to worry about. It’s fucktards like you that concern us a bit more. Besides, this atheist would almost welcome Islam becoming a vibrant part of White House culture for one simple reason: watching you suffer an apoplectic explosion would be totally worth it.

It’s amazing how insane these people are.
