Int’l Day to Defend Apostates and Blasphemers

March 14th is the International Day to Defend Apostates and Blasphemers. We stand in solidarity with the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain and courageous activists like Maryam Namazie to highlight and protest cases of draconian persecution worldwide:

“Countless individuals accused of apostasy and blasphemy face threats, imprisonment, and execution. Blasphemy laws in over 30 countries and apostasy laws in over 20 aim primarily to restrict thought, expression and the rights of Muslims, ex-Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

On 14 March 2013, we, the undersigned, call for an international day of action to defend apostates and blasphemers worldwide by highlighting ten cases though there are countless more…”

It takes an extraordinary amount of courage when facing serious punishment and /or death to state one’s beliefs.
This cannot be emphasized enough when dealing with theology-based governments & Muslim governments in particular.
Saudi Arabia and Iran have “Religious Police” & their actions are no joke. In support of “freedom” the American government has been “working” with the Saudi’s for decades. This is not only a corporate, oil-based mechanism but has been touted as the Saudis being “one of the ‘moderate’ states within the Gulf that are “America’s friends”. That nation has enough wealth to alleviate the hunger of virtually all of the Muslim population. The irony is that the “keeps of the Holy Places” shows so little regard for it’s brethren that it makes many television Evangelists appear “small-time” in comparison.
Individuals who are victims of concience in those countries need a great deal of support (which they are NOT getting from the UN).
