Wisconsin Rep Gwen Moore: Violence against women is as American as apple pie

By Frederick Sparks

Speaking on the floor of the U.S. House in favor of reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act,  Wisconsin Representative Gwen Moore recounted painful memories of sexual assault both as a child and as an adult.  “Domestic violence has been a thread throughout my personal life, up to and including being a child repeatedly sexually assaulted, up to and including, being an adult who’s been raped,” Moore said. Opposition to the bill this year has “really brought up some terrible memories for me.”  Watch here

Renewal has been stalled due to some Republican objections to what they consinder odious expansions of the bill’s scope, such as outreach to American Indians, assistance for undocumented immigrants dealing with domestic violence, and inclusion of those involved in same-sex domestic violence under the bill’s purview.

Those boys in the locker room saw her as just a hunting trophy to parade around to decide who had the biggest dick of them all. The idea of having sex with her had nothing to do with how much they were attracted to her, and everything to do with performing to each other.

Describes a lot of right-wingers’ attitude towards women in general, come to think of it. Underserved and vulnerable women are just trophies they can pass around the locker room as a display of dominance.

This comment was posted to the Youtube video of Gwen Moore’s speech:

“WTH is she talking about? We have laws in place for these things already! Men have been demonized by us women already and I AM a victim of sexual abuse by my own father!!! Back in the 70’s, it was an real issue, I don’t get what the problem is today. Undocumented workers a.k.a ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS do not deserve help, they need to go back to their own countries or BECOME American citizens like our grand parents and Great Grand Parents and then fall under our protection.”

    A good candidate for F/RSTDT.
