Praying for Obama

Seen over at Le Cafe Witteveen

So nice, those religious people praying for Obama, right? Let’s find out what Psalms 109:8 is, shall we? *flips through the internet* …Let’s see…the general consensus seems to be along the lines of:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Nice. I see what you did there you sneaky bastards. You’re not praying for President Obama, you’re praying against him. Asking God to intervene, to choose your side. The bible as weapon – whoda thunk it?

Oh Mary, I disagree. The bible is used a weapon allllll over the place.

Oooo…nice poem, CF! Do you know, when I first read 109:8 I didn’t immediately think of physical violence. It wasn’t until I read it in the context of the rest of 109 that it started to feel really icky. There’s that fancy cherry-picking that Christians seem to like so much – “No, no – we JUST meant 109:8! We didn’t mean 109:9!”

    The Lord’s Prayer

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:

    “Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be your name.[a]
    10 Your kingdom come,
    your will be done,[b]
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,[c]
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.[d]

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

It is a prayer against themselves, at the very least!

This is old stuff; there are reports of 109:8 being invoked against public officials going back to the 1980s, Pastor Wiley Drake of the SBC got Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” award for the same thing in 2009 and its citation in an email got a Florida sheriff suspended in 2010.

Of course what these sham Christians are not saying openly and what is more significant is the following verse, number nine:

“Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

    That is their real intent.

      ‘S’alright he’s just a Moarmon! Ain’t like Romeney’s a Real True Chjristian or nuthin’..

Now Santorum or Perry or, esp, Jeb Bush that’d be fightin’ words dat would!

      (But not to me.)

      1. From what I gather a scarily large percentage seriously think this yeras USA election is between a Moremoan and a Muzlimm.

If they therefore stay away? :-S

What, you mean that slightly calligraphic font looks unAmurikan? Like he’s furrin or something?

I gotta say my wtf moment for this morning was that video of the creepy teen angels or whatever they were. That was very strange indeed.

It’s from a movie called “Saved”. A young girl in a conservative religious high school has to re-evaluate her friends and her faith when she she gets pregnant and begins to be treated as a pariah.

    Nasty of ’em.

    Unsurprising, underhand, disgusting and nasty.

OTOH, if that’s the best they can do. Its also pitiful and utterly useless.

So good .. I guess maybe.
