The weirdness of blogging

The majority of my hits in the last month have come from people searching for Alexander McQueen.  It’s the second most common search engine term for my page, just behind otters.  As we all know the vast majority of my posts are about otters wearing high fashion.

Other interesting searches that led people to me: i agree with scalia, i hate you ashley, bad for actors to stalk casting director, aleksandr mcqween, series of unfortunate gays, how to create a theocracy in the US.

I particularly love “series of unfortunate gays” and someone apparently searching for a how to guide for turning the country into a theocracy.  I feel like I need to make some sort of directory so that the posts I think are worth reading are easy to access.  EDIT: New category, problem solved, now I just have to label them.

Random thought: All the other Ashleys in Hollywood are guys.  I don’t know how to feel about that.

Update

Hey people who may be reading this, sorry for the long absence.  Recovering from the holidays and surgery.  Don’t worry, I’m fine, but not quite up to blogging yet.  Still having my every whim catered to by my family, so I’m just going to milk that for a while.  Only came back to mark some Eddie comments as spam.  Because they were kinda gross.

See you in a few days, promise.

IMDb Update

1. I truly hate the new designs for individuals on IMDb.  It’s ugly and difficult.  But there is a way around it — go to by type on the side.

2. I’ve updated and added a bunch of credits to my IMDb page.  At the prompting of one of the actors in my short musical “Lord of Dreams” I’m trying to get that up again.

3. I’ve worked on a ton of Reality TV in the last year.  Sheesh.

Nicholl: Not a Finalist

Dear Ashley,

With the judging complete, sadly, I must report some bad news: Bible Con did not advance into the Final Round of the 2009 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition.

Having read a number of the semifinal scripts, I know that some outstanding work has not progressed. Throughout this industry, at studios, production companies and agencies, such judgments are subjective. The fact that Bible Con was one of 114 scripts selected from 6,380 entries may bode well for its future.

In January, we’ll send you a link to an application for the 2010 Nicholl competition, which will include a list of this year’s Fellowship winners. Within the next several months, we’ll post the lists of Quarterfinalists, Semifinalists, Finalists and Fellows on the Nicholl page — www.oscars.org/nicholl — at the Academy’s Web site.

For the contact list to be forwarded to agents, development executives, managers and producers who request it, we shall use the contact information you have given us. Check the information below to make certain that it is as you want it. If this information is incorrect, please change it as soon as possible via your online account, or let us know immediately via e-mail to [email protected] or fax to 310-247-3794. Over 200 copies of the contact lists were distributed last year. Lists will be distributed in early October.

If past experience means anything, several 2009 Nicholl Semifinalists will become professional screenwriters in the near future. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Greg Beal
Director

Hrm

Well, I’ve more or less got a rough version up. I’d really love to move the sidebar to the left side of the screen. And I’d love to be able to put a subheader underneath the top header. And in general I’m not a huge fan of how this front page looks, though I do quite like the feel of the theme. Oh well, I will work on it some other time.
