FtBCon Schedule (Updated)

Update: Now, with links to the sessions. Also, we added a session at the last minute on the psychology of trolls that I’ll be part of.

I’d say FtBCon had snuck up on me if I hadn’t put so much time into getting people prepared for it. But it’s this weekend, and I have panels I’m taking part in this time around, not just moderating. Here’s my schedule of those sessions I’ll be speaking at. I’ll come back before the conference starts and add links to each session. All times are CST.

The Psychology of Trolls, Saturday, 10-11 a.m.

Much has been made recently of trolling on the internet, and how it betrays the trolls’ sociopathy. Is there any truth in that? Why do trolls troll, otherwise? What traits do they have in common, and what tactics do they use as a result?

Miri Mogilevsky, Stephanie Zvan, Valerie Aurora, Tauriq Moosa, Jason Thibeault

[Secular Woman] How to Stay Positive in a Negative Online Environment, Saturday, 5-6 p.m.

Strife and harassment in our movements aren’t going away anytime soon, but we still have work to do. How do we keep from letting the negativity control our lives? How do we find the will to make good things happen when people are constantly trying to stop us?

Monette Richards, Amy Davis Roth, Lauren Lane, Stephanie Zvan

Building a Better Workshop, Sunday, 11 a.m.-noon

Workshops are showing up at more and more atheist and humanist conferences these days, but what does it take to make them work? How do you go from knowing about the topic to helping other people understand it? How do you find good workshops if you’re running a conference?

Josiah “Biblename”, RJ Redden, Valerie Aurora, Stephanie Zvan

Introduction to Secular Women Work Conference, Sunday, 2-3 p.m.

There’s a new conference in town (if the town is Minneapolis), and it’s not quite like anything else out there. Let the organizers tell you why should attend and why and how you should support the conference even if you can’t make it.

Stephanie Zvan, Monette Richards, Chelsea DuFresne

[Haven’t heard of this conference? Check back here tomorrow.]

Make Your Code of Conduct Work for You, Sunday, 5-6 p.m.

Did you know codes of conduct cover more than sexual harassment? Did you know they can shape your event in many positive ways? Tune in and find out how to create the code of conduct that works for you, your organization, your event, and your volunteers.

Chelsea DuFresne, Michael Damian Thomas, Stephanie Zvan

Looking forward to the links. There are a few sessions I would like to attend, but I am confused as to how as this is the first online conference for me. The FTBCon.org page doesn’t say how to view the sessions, and the link to Lanyrd goes to last year’s page. Presumably links to the other sessions will be posted somewhere?

Thank you for asking, Alice. The links will make it much easier to watch. They’ll take you to a Hangout page with a YouTube video that will start when the session is scheduled to start or let you watch after it’s done. I also updated the link to the Lanyrd page. It’s one of those quick tasks we hadn’t assigned anyone.

Thanks for the info on how it works Stefanie. I am determined to work all this out myself without having to ask my son! I will check back here for the links. Looking forward to hearing your sessions.

Oops, just an apology for spelling your name wrong above Stephanie! My niece shares the same name with an ‘f’, guess I was on autopilot when I wrote it.
