The Final Reckoning

I promised more thanks from happy teachers either after the election or when the science bloggers’ Donors Choose campaign ended. I, for one, didn’t need cheering up after the election, so I saved these for today. You can see the final results at the end of this post. Spoilers: You helped a lot of kids.

Now for some happy teachers.

From Mrs. Hall, whose students now have jump drive to keep their work with them as they move around:

I cannot fully express my feelings and appreciation for your donation to my project. I am so thrilled that we share a vision that includes helping my students. The tools that you have so generously help fund, will be used to save work in the computer lab. My students will now be able to save work done in the lab, so they may continue on another visit. Thank you so much again for being so generous. I cannot wait to share the great news with my students!

With gratitude,
Mrs. H

From Ms. Donaldson, whose students now have more resources to learn basic numeracy:

I cannot fully express my joy, excitement, and gratefulness for your donation to my project. It is wonderful to see that you share my vision for reaching children and providing tools to help close the achievement gap. The tools that you have funded will enable students to create and explain math concepts with concrete tools. The tools will also allow me to differentiate the Common Core standards to accommodate for different learning styles and student needs. The Take It to Your Seat math games and Common Core math centers will be a classroom addition the students can’t wait to get their hands on! The children love interactive centers and math stations. These centers will allow the kids to experience success, both individually and in cooperative groups. Most of all, it will get them to activate their thinking! Thank you so much for your contribution to this project and your generosity. I can’t wait to introduce these tools to the children. Thank You!!!!!

With gratitude,
Ms. D

From Mr. James, whose students will be reading what they want to instead of what adults tell them they should:

I am grateful that you thought it not robbery for my students to benefit from your monetary sacrifice. I have told my students the good news and they anxiously await for the delivery of the books. This will be great for us because finally they can read content they are interested in while improving their reading skills. One of the projects in their curriculum is a research paper on an author in American literature. These biographies and autobiographies that you got for us will aid us greatly because they will be in our classroom and no longer will we have to share resources with the entire school. Illiteracy is a growing issue in our community; especially in areas with families of low-socioeconomic status. Right now, many of them only believe whats on television and are subject to what the media is telling them. Improving literacy will give them new perspective. Thanks again and may God bless you all!

With gratitude,
Mr. J

From Mrs. Berg, whose students will engage in fun activities that teach them the basics of reading:

I make it a point to tell my students they are smart, and with hard work they can accomplish anything. When I tell my students about the donors from around the country that want to help our class, I see their faces light up. By supporting our cause, you are giving us far more than resources but you are also letting my students know that you believe in them. These center workstations will add enthusiasm, enrichment and support to all my readers. I can’t wait to tell them the news and share our reading experiences with you! Thank you all.

With gratitude,
Mrs. B

From Mrs. Moskall, whose students will have access to nonfiction books at all their reading levels:

I can’t fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children. The books that you have funded will enable students to read and understand nonfiction subjects & relate the information to their world. They will be able to have more resources at their fingertips to learn and investigate. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to introduce these new books to the children.

With gratitude,
Mrs. M

From Mrs. Lawson, whose students will start a habit of reading the news early:

Thank you so much for supporting my project! I have a very sweet group of students and I can’t wait to tell them that we will get to enjoy Scholastic News because of the kindness of strangers! Each week, we will look forward to the exciting new things we will learn in the issues that arrive. Science and social studies will be especially fun to teach with current kid-friendly news. We will enjoy each and every issue! Your donation is very much appreciated! My students wouldn’t have this wonderful resource any other way. Thank you again!

With gratitude,
Mrs. L

From Ms. Dunn, whose students will be feeling one less effect of Hurricane Isaac:

I cannot begin to express my full gratitude at the generosity each donor has shown. With each donation to this project for my kids I felt love and support for the job that I do and for my wonderful students. These essential materials are going to be used DAILY to help my students succeed. My students will create sight words, spelling words, word families, math problems, and so much more using the wikki sticks. the privacy partitions will be used by all, but especially by my students that need a little less distraction in our busy learning environment. Thank you so very much for your kindness.

With gratitude,
Ms. D

From Mrs. Guerrero, whose students will now have basic tools in their physics lab:

Thank you so much for your donations! There was a project that the students were unable to do due to the lack of supplies but now they can do it! I know the students are happy to have the same supplies and therefore opportunities as other high school students. It is important to the students to feel as prepared for their future colleges and careers as students at other schools are. Thank you for making it possible for the students to do more labs and hands-on projects and therefore better understand the subject matter.

With gratitude,
Mrs. G

From Ms. Zanzucchi, whose students will be able to hold a book club to inspire them to get their reading skills up to grade level:

I am so excited to announce that Books Build Dendrites has been fully funded! I cannot wait to get these books into my kids hands…and I know they are excited, too. I have been talking up these titles and we are planning a big book fair where kids can come and “shop” for the new books and decide what they want to read next. This is a huge support to their literacy and academic growth and I have all of you to thank for this. I am humbled and honored by all of your support. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again. Pictures and thank you notes will be coming soon! Much love and gratitude.

With gratitude,
Ms. Z

From me, too. Thank you so much to all who participated in this challenge. None of this would have happened without you.
