Mock the Movie: Everyone Dies

You know how you’re watching a movie in which the plot is driven entirely by the fact that every single character is either a terrible human being or completely incapable of envisioning the most basic cause and effect? You know how you feel when that happen? You know what you want?

This Thursday, October 11, we will be picking up a Belgian gem that will deliver what so many of our movies only promise: The cartoonishly graphic slaughter of despicable people. Seriously, we’re told no one survives the Rabid Grannies. Watch with us on YouTube.

Two weeks after that, we’re going Ed Wood on October 25. Yes, we know this one has been mocked by the pros. We’re not going to let that stop us. Bride of the Monster is still a classic. Not good, mind you, but a classic. Also freely available on YouTube.

Then, two weeks later, on November 8, we’ll be watching a movie that we know next to nothing about. There is no trailer available on YouTube. The entire description of the movie on IMDB is “A Nazi scientist invents a time machine enabling him to go back to alter the events of WWII.” Really, though, what more do you need? Join us for The Yesterday Machine, free at YouTube. Or, if you haven’t destroyed your glasses, you can watch it in 3D.

“These all sound awful!” I hear you cry. Yes, yes, they do. “These must be mocked mercilessly”, you say. Well, then you’re in the right company. The instructions for playing along:

  1. Start following @MockTM on Twitter.
  2. Start watching the movie on the appropriate Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT.
  3. Once you’ve got the movie going, tweet your snarky comments to @MockTM.  Directing our tweets to @MockTM will keep our followers from being overwhelmed with our snark!
  4. Set up a search for @MockTM on Twitter for the duration so you can follow along with everyone else sharing your pain.

If you have suggestions for other movies that can and should be mocked, send them to @MockTM. Preference will be given to movies that are free or stream on the major media delivery services. Watch the feed, and we’ll set up the calendar for more terrible, mockable movies.

TweetSubs, the app to turn live tweets into VLC subtitles, was updated to 1.05 just prior to the last MockTM, but I probably announced it too close to show time.

Besides fixing a critical bug, it introduced a workaround for streaming or otherwise VLC-unfriendly media: A large-print white-on-black popup that can linger near whatever proprietary player you’re using… like YouTube.

Still beta, but it’s been working well for me.
