It’s time for another truly terrible movie. Tomorrow, August 30, we’ll be mocking In the Year 2889. This charming little post-nuclear-apocalyptic tale involves telepathic cannibals. Better yet, the principal characters spend most of the movie fighting amongst themselves, so you may end up rooting for the cannibals–even more than usual. I didn’t find a trailer, but this short clip will at least introduce you to our cannibal friends.

Then, two weeks from now, at the same time on September 13, we will subject ourselves to the Lou Ferrigno version of Hercules (currently available on Netflix and Amazon streaming video). This version promises that it’s “updated” for the 1980s. That apparently means bad hair, bad special effects, and…space aliens.
Then, as recommended by Rando, we will be watching Moontrap, staring Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell. On September 30, we will immerse ourselves in murderous space robots and sexy ancient aliens. This one is free at YouTube.
“These all sound awful!” I hear you cry. Yes, yes, they do. “These must be mocked mercilessly”, you say. Well, then you’re in the right company. The instructions for playing along:

Oh I wish I could join in!! Me and my mates used to this (+ weed; – Twitter) every other week when I was back home. Alas, mini-me demands my evening attention nowadays.
“Beautiful aliens”? It has been many years since I saw _Moontrap_, but I thought that they implied that the woman they found frozen on the moon was from Earth, from a vanished previous civilization. They mentioned how long she had been frozen, and as I recall the numbers were right for her civilization to have collapsed in the most recent glaciation. Totally hokey of course, but I like it when there are hints that the writers have at least read a few real books. In the first couple episodes of _Stargate: SG1_, the humans found on other planets were “transplants” from one ancient culture or another, and Daniel had to figure out their languages. He learned them absurdly fast–even faster than in the movie–but at least the writers were *trying* for a few episodes. They they forgot about it, and everyone spoke English.

paul, one geeky quibble. The SG1 writing team didn’t forget about English. They made a conscious choice to dedicate more of the show to something other than language difficulties. I can’t say as I blame them. You can do things in a movie you can’t do every week of a television season.
