The Art of Misogyny

It turns out that MRA’s don’t confine themselves to writing screeds against child support, whining that domestic abuse shelters built by women for women don’t house men instead of building new shelters, and falling for ridiculous spermjacking stories on Reddit. They also steal icons make art to convey their totally positive, man-centric messages. They store some of that art here.

What sorts of messages will you find there to build up men without tearing down women? Things like this.

Women, men don’t want you, because you’re not worth it! False rape allegations, forced parenthood, paternity fraud, discriminatory divorce laws, female on male violence, institutionalized misandry, and a life of forced servitude. Walk a mile in our fucking shoes!

I’ll bet those shoes don’t have high heels or promote bunions. Interesting as well that most of those complaints relate to relationships. Even that “life of forced servitude” only makes sense in the light of supporting a family. I assume the MRAs intend to get that family by some means other than adoption or budding. Perhaps they should question their major premise here.

What other positive, pro-men messages are there?

Mother, pardon us for we males are all sinners, rapists and murderers. Protect us from ourselves and lead us into your warm light. Take our evil manhood away from us and turn us into our true perfection…FEMALES.

Mangina: When self-hatred, misandric bigotry and masochism merge in one man.

Dear men who care to have any of the self-control that is drilled into girls constantly in their childhoods, beware the shiny, shiny boobies! Also, know that any such self-control will earn you the hatred of this movement that claims to work for your rights. Also, candles.

Surely there must be a positive message out there.

We’re still doing it. Rod the Riveter. 3x’s the work for the same amount of cash.

Yes! A positive message! That is completely false! Because apparently there’s nothing good to say about men without making something up? Sometimes I just have to conclude that MRAs haven’t thought things through.

I do always appreciate the ability of art to expose the nuances of one’s world view, don’t you?

H/T Sarah.

I was sure Stephanie had cherry-picked the most vile, tasteless images from that site. Then I followed the link. I should not have done that.

I had to look too. Car crashes are a prettier sight. It seems she cherry picked the least offensive ones.

To tell the truth, some of them are so over the top cartoonish depiction of naked hatred that I wonder if at least part of it is not a Poe.

    Laurent,

I saw some of this “artwork” over at ManBoobz, which is regularly trolled by MRAs who earnestly and sincerely believe this crap. So while one would like to say it’s a Poe… in all likelihood it’s the real thing.

Propaganda: (n) a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.

Propaganda art should be more than a doodle and a screed. This is just frothing at the choir.

*Sigh* I mean, jokes are jokes – my dearly loved wife is great at making mysogynist jokes. But her jokes are intelligent, show an ironic self-distancing and play upon chliches.

What, in comparison, is this? A load of completely unintelligent insulty. Boring, not funny…

The term MRA is akin to the term pro-life, imo, in that it’s wildly inaccurate, dishonest and midleading. They’re male supremaicst, like white supremacists. They don’t care at all about “rights” they care about domination and protecting abusers.

    MichealD @ 5-

Can’t they at least make decent pro-men art…

MRAs will take credit for men that have been the innovators and great inventors and the great artists, but then these pinnacles of manhood can’t operate Photoshop worth a damn (much less a pencil, judging by the few awful original drawings), and choose fonts with the same finesse and aesthetic sense that they use to choose Trucknutz.

MRA stands for Men’s Rights Advocates. While a minority of MRA’s are actually interested in gender equality, the majority are male supremacists.

    Sylvia Sybil,

I’d say that by this point anybody who’s actually interested in issues affecting the rights of men should still not call themselves Men’s Right’s Advocates, on the same principle that says somebody who’s interested in socialism at the national level should still not be called a National Socialist.

Or they are really self-hating misandrists underneath? Sheesh.

Wouldn’t pro-men art mean the Riace bronzes, Michelangelo’s David, Washington Crossing the Delaware, and the photo of G.I.s raising the flag at Iwo Jima? If you have 2500 years or so of paintings, sculptures, and photographs to choose from, why post dreck?

    Nentuaby,

I agree that the MRA movement is inherently sexist and male supremacist, but it’s been my experience that a few individual MRA’s are genuinely aiming for equality and I didn’t want to over-generalize. Personally, I think salvaging anything positive out of MRA is a lost cause, but if they want to try it’s no skin off my nose.

Personally, I think salvaging anything positive out of MRA is a lost cause, but if they want to try it’s no skin off my nose.

As long as they are doing it in self-proclaimed opposition to feminism, in ignorance of the fact that rigid gender roles are the root cause of most of their difficulties, it kinda is a bunch of skin off my nose.

Who the hell forced these poor, oppressed, helpless creatures into dealing with women in the first place?

By now, they’ve really figured out that
    a) women are absolutely unbearable and horrible in every possible respect,
    b) men don’t want and much less need women.

So why are these men of supposedly superior intelligence repeatedly subjecting themselves to the torture of getting involved with women?
Somebody please alert them to the obvious solution of carefully avoiding women altogether! I’m sure that even those evil women are happy to help them with this… it’d be a win-win situation for everyone.

For those wondering what’s a Poe and what’s not, remember, that’s the very essence of Poe’s Law: That the earnest be indistinguishable from the satire.

That said, what’s collected here is plenty enough for me, thanks. I can get all of the women-hate I can handle from online games, I don’t need to go looking for more.

    Sally Strange @ 27

True. And those would not be the ones I’m referring to.

What I’m gathering from this conversation is that no one else has met a non-sexist, pro-feminist MRA (and I’ve only met, like, two). Therefore, I withdraw my early comment.

    Sylvia Sybil:

The few I know of generally dissociate themselves from the MRA label, if not just call themselves “feminists” outright. Namely:

    http://goodmenproject.com/category/noseriouslywhatabouttehmenz/

Caveat: Last I read of them, NSWATM were doing a good job, but I haven’t checked on them in months.

There’s also the More Than Men project. And I’m definitely an advocate for men’s rights, and because I believe that men’s rights are best served by fixing gender roles, I just cannot possibly use the term MRA considering it’s associated with so many other antifeminist sentiments.
